    Connection SSP-800 and Fathom F113

    Hi!

How do you connect your sub JL Fathom F113 and your SSP-800? XLR (balanced) vs RCA unbalanced? I have only one sub and I don't have the space to put it in the front beside the 802d, can I put it in the back corner and the automatic calibration will correct everything?

    Thanks

    Ian

You can use either, of course. I use XLR for the F113 with my Meridian 861. You should know that the EQ in the F113 is useful but minimal and will only correct one mode. Putting the sub in a(ny) corner will maximize the effects of all room modes and the built-in EQ will likely not be sufficient. If you have the tools (REW, XTZ, AntiMode, Audyssey, etc.), you will be able to do much better.

      Thanks Kal!

Is the XLR better than the RCA?
BTW, I read your review before buying the sub and the 802d's...

Not unless you are in a situation with lots of EMI and your cables are very long. For most users, the only salient features of XLR cables are the more positive connectors and the higher cost.

So, do you have noise interference? How long will the cables be?

The cable is around 25 feets. What do you define by noise interference?
Actually, I have both RCA and XLR copper cables but they are not high end. Do you believe in high end cable for subwoofer or speakers at large? Which cables are you using for your speakers and sub?

          Thanks

Well, can you hear any noise or hum with long interconnects? I run L/C/R/Sub cables at 10meters each and have no hum/noise issues. I use the XLRs because I can.

I believe in well constructed, well terminated cables.

Which cables are you using for your speakers and sub?
Interconnects are AudioQuest Cheetah/DBS balanced in one system, Kubala-Sosna Fascination balanced in the other, fwiw. If you want other info, you can look it up at www.stereophile.com

                A question for gurus cables,

My XLR cable is marked for microphone. Can I use it for the F113? If not, why and what should I get instead?

                Thanks
