Krell Adds Auto-Room Correction To Its $30,000 Evolution 707 AV Preamp

Krell has introduced a new upgrade for the Evolution 707 surround preamp/processor. The free upgrade optimizes the performance of the Evolution 707 in any listening environment by adding a room equalization system.

If Krell can do this with a simple firmware update, perhaps Classé can too - with their "flagship" SSP-800? Here's hoping

Classe has stated they could do it, they just choose not to. They don't believe that an automated one is as good as doing it by hand.

Which sounds like the marketing dept. is holding it back for the SSP-900 to give us all a reason to upgrade.

Hopefully not, talk about milking the customers.

On the Other hand $30,000 for a processor come on!!!

Krell has "A 32 bit dual core DSP running at 1.8 giga operations per second computes equalizer filter coefficients and applies individual curves to each of the 8.4 output channels"

Classé has two 64 bit Momentum Data Systems
        - Texas Instruments Aureus
        DAE-77 Chip

DAE-77 Dual DSP Digital Only Audio Engine

Compact form factor dual DSP AV Receiver processor

The DAE-77 is a dual floating point DSP surround sound decoder and processing module for AV Receiver applications. The DAE-77 does not have any analog I/O and can therefor be customized to create unique product definitions

The DAE-77 supports all Dolby and DTS formats, including the newest HD formats found on Blu Ray discs. The second DSP node is dedicated to post processing, and supports leading room EQ system software.

It's not the MIPs. How do you add a mic jack via firmware?

It's just one module: Here's a link to the new dual DSP module in the SSP-800.

I still like certain aspects of Trinnov, despite a bad experience with a Sherwood 972.

Easy. Use an external mini preamp such as the one Audyssey includes in their AudysseyPro Kit. Then, any line input will do.
