    I'm confused . . . shouldn't this design be a flop?

I would expect that if the two subwoofer drivers are facing each other like this, they would tend to cancel each other out . . . no? Yet it is a commercially marketed design, so it can't be *that* bad . . . Can anyone explain this to me?

CD, as long as the drivers are working against each other it'll work fine. If the cones were moving together (both moving in the same direction at the same time) they'd cancel each other out.

Think of the design as two separate boxes placed face to face.

The drivers must be electrically and mechanically 'in-phase'. That means they will be moving in or out at the same time. If not then they will cancel.
