VC overheating: is this a cool idea? or merely lukewarm?

In my sealed sub, as long as internal volume change doesn't present a problem, is there any reason not to turn the driver around so the motor faces outside? It seems to me that having the motor on the outside of the box would tend to be beneficial from the perspective of voice coil cooling. Or is any difference inconsequential?

    Thanks!

For home entertainment use they don't get hot enough for that to be a problem.

I don't know what drivers you're using, but take a look at the mfgr's rated Pmax. That's the thermal limit of the VC. For example the Adire Audio Tempest, it has a Pmax of 750 watts.

Brandon B, email me if you think you'll have any free time in the evening and if you will be within striking distance of the Tokyo central business district (I work at a securities co. in Ohtemachi). Maybe we can get together some evening. Any plans to visit Akihabara "Electric Town"?

ThomasW, can I interpret your answer as meaning thermal power compression due to increasing resistance in the voice coil is mostly a non-issue for home use subs?

          Thanks,

I'll be out by the land of the talking mouse this trip, and probably short on time to get into the city as it's just for a week. I have 3-4 multiweek trips in the next 6 months though. I'll certainly look you up during one of those.
