Out of town a few days- heading to Cascade and Macall ID

I should have internet access at the hotel in Cascade, but anywhere else, who knows? Cellular is often spotty out in the boondocks, to say the least. Wednesday we'll pop up to Coeur d/Alene, for the views and to close a BOA account. (not a single BOA office in the Treasure Valley area, but lots in the Spokane Valley).

You folks play nice while I'm gone- Liubov wanted to spend a little lakeside time in the mountains before winter sets in!

It's good to be back. It was definitely a change of pace, and an interesting area for outdoor activities all year 'round; one of the things I found out is that in the winter they have TWO special Iditarod training events, one relatively "short", and the other one 100 miles! Being a Siberian Husky kind of guy, I can totally respect that!






We spent time in Cascade and Macall, the latter having been recommended to us by our former realtor who lives in Eagle- Cascade has a lot of state park and some national park areas around the Cascade lake, whereas Macall is what you're call a remote resort town on Lake Payette, where much of the lake is surrounded by private roads and homes, and the town is fairly built up with local real estate for out of owners, and the commerce to support them- like two large grocery stores in a rather small town. That was actually quite useful, as though staying in a large hotel in Cascade, we stocked up on things like salad and other groceries at the Macall Albertson's.


But, of course, I should bore you with a few pictures, NOT taken in either of the towns, as that is the whole point for going hiking, right?


Lake Cascade has a hydro power dam which also serves to regulate the flow on the Payette river downstream. About 43% of Idaho electric power is hydro electric.








This was on Wednesday, after the first snow of the season on Tuesday. Yes, this was an "off season expedition" which makes the travel and other stuff a lot nicer.

Nice looking country side! Did you stumble upon any bears? They've been a problem up here in Alberta Parks.

Funny you should ask that- I was sending pictures to my neighbor across the street, who was picking up my mail for us while we were gone- he’s a policeman in another community, and asked if I brought a pistol along for protection from bears!

I’d checked ahead, and there are not bears in this area, and all we saw was a wider selection of birds, several kinds of squirrels, and one red box!
