So I go in the house for a drink cause I am thirsty, tired and sweaty from trying to lap the sides of these boxes on my big sanding block (it took a long time and was tons of work) only to find my wife left a helper out to help me finish the work....

Your mass mod two the Monacor WG300 is pretty much identical to what I did with the MCM waveguide used in the Modula MT XE.

I checked Thomas Heissman and they don't have shipping options for my address- at least not today! But they might also be shut down for August.

OTOH, I think I can design and mill these from Leecraft BK6 phenolic sheet. Just curious what you did.

PM me an address and I will send you two adapters. These adapters are specifically for the WG300 and a direct fit for Scanspeak/Peerless tweeters, SB and other brands will not fit. I forget where I got the file, but I had them 3D printed by JLC PCB in China. This adapter is a direct fit and does not require sanding back the WG to the adapter face like the Heisman ones does.

Great job and congrats David! Wish I could have been there to hear them. I did hear your 2019 InDIYana speakers. I couldn’t believe those were your first attempt at DIY speakers.

For those not familiar with the PE event: The speakers are judged in the following six categories, with a score of 1 to 10 in each category: Clarity, Craftmanship, Dynamic Range, Originality/Design, Soundstage/Imaging and Tonal Balance. The judges this year were Jerry McNutt, Vance Dickason and Peter Bichel Noerbae. Andrew Jones was going to be a judge this year, but had to cancel shortly before the event. Maybe next year.

Sounds good. Plenty of material to choose from. Just acquired some pla carbon fiber filament.

Thank you so much, they arrived with the hardware yesterday!
I'm still waiting to see if the WG300 ships as roughly scheduled.

Slow work takes time, take 300+

So many projects, so few hours in the day!

And WG-300's are rather scarce! But I wanted to see the profile on that waveguide badly enough that I ordered half a dozen of them from my favorite distributor in Europe and finally got them!

Without pictures in an AI free environment, it's not real on the internet...

Of note to others familiar with other premade waveguides like the Visaton or Jantzen, or the old MCM version, the end of the waveguide is not flush with the back mounting plane and usually requires a special adapter to use any tweeter other than the Monacor DT-300.

Now, a primary reason I wanted to check this out was the Heissman Acoustics test report on it with some various Scanspeak tweeters. However, though Heissman sells adapter plates, he does so only in the EU, as he's not setup to handle the sales tax complexities of the US market.

Still, you have to admit some of his results look promising...

However, what I find more interesting, looking forward, is the potential of the new Scanspeak D3004-602200 Illuminator tweeter, which has a number of improvements compared with past designs, and replaces three tweeters in the existing line up, which are now EOL as of the end of 2023.

                    Loaded into Shapr3D:

The half plane direct response of this tweeter:

As ET would say, "Interesting... most interesting!

Now, the fact this this is a beautiful fit for the waveguide throat AND the three mounting holes just happen to pretty much line up with the original front plate mounting holes of those older bigger tweeters, is well, just icing on the cookie, right?

                    We'll see... hopefully reasonably soon.

And yes, one possibility is an 8" two way with the PuriFi 8" 4 ohm. woofer...

But I also see potential for a much smaller system with the 6.5" PuriFi X04 woofer and PR's.

Resistance is not futile, it is Volts divided by Amperes...

Does show good potential, in line with what I was hoping for. A pair should be here in a few days... thanks for the link!

The interesting thing is, as reported on Madisound, the specific things ScanSpeak worked to improve with the D3004-6022-00:
                        • Lower distortion and improved frequency response extending to beyond 40kHz due to optimized internal construction.
                        • Increased sensitivity (+1-1,5dB) due to higher grade neodymium magnet.
                        • Improved Q due to optimized internal volume in a new high precision reinforced polycarbonate rear chamber.
                        • A new smoother look with Black anodized aluminium Ø62mm faceplate.
                        • Better connection with new gold-plated terminals with improved heat resistance at soldering.

Easy to see why it replaces a pair of older models, and at a reasonable price, IMO.

I'm looking foward to testing the pair on order.
