    M8A vs M8N - Jon/Thomas?

    Hi Guys,

I just spoke to Solen about these two drivers. 8-10 wks delivery time. I ordered a pair of M8A ($44.89CDN my cost!). Looking at the T/S specs, they are slightly different. I'm planning on using them either in Jons 2 way with the XT25, or maybe as a dipole mid a la Arvo Part. Have I ordered the correct driver? The overall Qts is slightly lower at .43 vs .45 (probably makes no difference?). Can I get your input on which driver to order? By the way, the M8N would have been $10 cheaper.

    Thanks,
    RonS

The T/S difference between the M8a and M8n isn't enough to matter.

We 'prefer' the M8a simply because it has the nice cast frame. If only the M8n was available, we'd have no problem using them.

Thanks Thomas. Since I can get either apparently, I went with the A version.

Do you happen to have any measured t/s parameters? Hi-vi doesn't list Le for this driver, I'd like to play with it in UniBox.

      Thanks again,

Le is about 1.2-1.3 mH. It only has a significant affect on the response above a few hundred Hz, so for LF box modeling, the supplied parameters will give Unibox enough to calculate the rest of the model.

There has been very good agreement between my measurements, the supplied T/S parameters, and Unibox predictions, so you should be able to have some confidence. If it would be helpful, I'll put copies of Unibox 3 files with the different alignments we've used; you can check these out, too.
