5.1 input

Have any of you solved the issue with only having one 5.1 input, but having two sources?

I have the Rotel 1066 pre-amp that only have one 5.1 input. I want to hook up my current 1080 DVD-A player, but I am also thinking of getting a SACD player.
Given the nature of the signal, I have discarded the idea of an external selector box - that would simply degrade the signal quality to much.
Can you use "Y" adapters were both units are connected? - or would that create a short?

Nope don't use "Y" connectors.

If the pre/pro doesn't offer multiple 5.1 inputs, the only viable option is to use an external switcher.

Shawn Fogg sells a switch box that uses relays for the switching. If your prepro has an assignable 12V trigger, you can use that to switch automatically. Otherwise, you need to do it manually. If someone is handy with basic circuit design, I imagine he could build something similar for less money.
