Oh wow Jon congratulations! You've been worked too hard for too long!

Of course I'm sure you loved your job, it sounded like there was never a dull moment mind you, but now you'll have time to do all those things you kept having to put into storage. Here's hoping you make the transition as well as a 4th order LW.
What you screamin' for, every five minutes there's a bomb or something. I'm leavin' Bzzzzzzz!

Wow Guys! I've been so busy working my to-do list I'm lucky to check in here once a day or every other day this week!

I have another trip to Idaho coming up tomorrow morning... lots of stuff to get done today before that happens!

And you have no idea how many deferred projects I have parts sitting up there waiting for me to start working on... it's going to be a very interesting year!

I was just talking to one of my colleagues in Canada, with whom I worked closely on developing LLC converter design and analysis techniques, and training internal groups- we have some new ideas to follow up on, and expect a project or two and maybe a book before all is said and done...

It's like the Tom Petty song, "Into the Great Wide Open" - "The future was wide open..." "The sky was the limit..." "A rebel without a clue..."

Now I just need to find a roadie named Bart...

I think with this retirement Jon is actually going to turn into a drive unit himself! Either that or a high efficiency power converter.

I'm posting from a parking lot on Caldwell Blvd from my m1 MacBook, with an appointment for Tuesday to get internet installed at the house before I heads back to CA for the next run...

Crazy busy, but loving every minute of it! A ton of stuff to do this month for getting the move accomplished... but I'm running true to form, ordered some new Accuton C168 variants just last Friday, and have other parts for testing on the way. I probably have at least 4, maybe 5 major speaker projects in the pipeline, and I do have a plan for melding Hypex and PuriFi technology with my own power supply stuff, all resonant wide bandage based designs.

                                      Wooo Hooo!

And can you believe this? Considering my avatar namesake and spiritual guide, I have a grandson named Emmett... old Doc Emmett Brown would be proud!

                                        Great Scott!
I am so jealous. I know that being young is important too, but being 43 and being 22 plus years away from retirement, i would consider trading places. I am dreading going back to work tomorrow. Enjoy it man.

                                          Jon,
Tonight might not be a bad pizza night and as I remember Guidos on Chinden ave. west of Boise had a good NY style pepperoni pizza. The salads were also pretty good. We use to get it weekly when I lived there.

Thanks for the tip! That’s the kind of local information I can really use now! I’ve learned a lot in the few days I’ve been camping out in the new house.

Further thoughts on retirement- I could probably write a long chapter in a book about what 2020 has been like and how it’s impacted plans So many events which should have merited more thought and attention have just flashed by the window0- like Art Dudley of Stereophile magazine passing in April this year.. and he was 3 years younger than I am! So, I don’t know if it’s unbridled optimism or sheer hubris that I feel (and plan to act) like I have a wide open road in front of me. But it seems like the healthiest and most productive way to proceed. Dwelling on all the people younger than I am that have passed, including ones I know/knew personally, just doesn’t seem the right way to expend time and energy right now...
There are a lot of things in my personal lifestyle that I pay attention to, unlike, say, my younger sister, or her ex husband, who are both in horrible health compared with me. I would really be depressed were I in similar circumstances. (Example, she has rheumatoid arthritis, can’t hardly cook for herself according to her son Josh, while I can still play keyboards and guitar and don’t have any obvious motor impairment for activities like that. It’s not all just luck... )

well, let’s see what we can get done today!

Also, I should acknowledged I retired late, in order to optimize the financial aspects and long term prospects... a toss of the dice, but hopefully the right one!

Jon congrats on retirement! I look forward to seeing what you can accomplish without the 5am-8pm workday (plus weekends) holding you back! Drive safe on the winter roads during your cargo trips!

Also happy new year to all, and hopefully 2021 has some uplifting events for each us!

It's generally a good idea to plan for the future, just in case you wake up and have one. If I'd known I was going to live past 30 I would have made several decisions differently....

                                                      Relax? Hah!

Day before yesterday I had 18 things to do in my planner... at the end of the day, just 3 remained, which I reassigned to other dates.

Yesterday was a drive back up from CA to Nampa. We've got some wacky weather going on that works in my favor- the big front in the Sierra Nevada's had temperatures 10 degrees higher than normal, so it was raining instead of snowing, even at 7200ft! And temps all over NV were in the 50-60's, whereas a week ago they were 35. Also, you may have heard about the high winds, hurricane force in Wyoming? A mere 30-50mph in NV yesterday, but made for some interesting driving...

Today, I get new wheels with a set of snow tires, and have a call with my Schwab counselor, and follow up with some storage unit items.

After that, I might have lunch...

                                                      Relax? Naw....

I consider a busy day on my schedule relaxing. It's other people's timetables that make it work.

Got a lot of plans for what's left... will detail some of them when I have time after the move!

The move keeps getting "interesting", like U-Haul changing their rental policies in CA, first limiting trailers to 24 hours, and recently vans and trucks, to prevent any long distance stuff, and keep inventory in the state. U-Haul is getting slammed all over because of so many people moving new places all over the country- heck, where I'm going doesn't even make the top 10 lists I see written up!

And the weather gods decided this week would be a great time for an atmospheric river, and shutting down the Sierra passes midweek... so more stuff will be moved to local storage, and picked up later.

As Steve is fond of saying, when it rains, it pours! Literally, except here it will be snow- 1-6 ft above 6000 ft!

It's possibly a good suggestion, one I thought about, but where I live in San Ramon in a condo there wouldn't be any place to put it. And I've got most of this done- probably 85-90%. So I'm in the weird situation of filling back up a storage unit with the last of the stuff from the condo, which I'd just finished emptying out a few weeks ago!

As they say, we shall persevere! But it seems like there have been a succession of events raising the olympic degree of difficultly for something that in 2019 looked very straight forward!

Not really any big deal to me... but I lived in CO for 15 years, and I just bought some new wheels and Michelin snow tires (both special ordered) for my FJ Cruiser. So, yeah, I kind of cheat, like I usually do.

Those also had to come on special order from the East Coast. Michelin is having production problems and availability issues, naturally enough for the odd ball sizes of my custom wheels. But it made it up to Idaho without issues... Here we are up at a rest stop in the Sierra Nevada on Feb 4 with the Acrua and Liubov's Lexus chase car...

It's kind of funny driving around with your eyeballs well below the door handles of almost all other cars on the road- even Econo sedans! The NSX is a project car for which I've had no time to do the project - conversion to 2002 Type R configuration. All the parts for it in storage- so I haven't been driving it or putting miles on it, just what I would call maintained storage, with regular startups, and a battery tender for the newer Optima battery. Oh, and a full fluids swap out before this drive.

UHaul is essentially paralyzed in CA due to equipment flight (no rentals over 24 hours, for trailers or trucks), so I'm renting a tailer up here to go down on Monday and pickup more stuff from my local storage- fortunately I had some I've been using a long while, because storage is very tight now, too, due to fall out from the pandemic.

It'll all work out eventually, but it sure is making this move a bigger challenge than I expected, even though I expected a lot, being it was in mid winter.

It’s imposed some occasional limitations on travel back to CA to pick up stuff from storage, but it varies- three weeks ago there’s was only a two day window of acceptable weather along the route, and even one of those days had some very heavy winds and corn snow for about 40 miles. But nothing that would bother the FJ or the Michelin snow tires.

And this last week, while I’ve been fabricating pedestals for the Bosch washer and dryer that got delivered yesterday (fortunately! I was worried about them getting here from points further East) it’s been almost spring like, hitting 60-65 degrees a few days! well, actually, I guess that IS spring like.

Treasure valley is down at 2000 ft, and has a bit milder climate than any areas around it- for example, I’ve driving from here when it was 28-30 degrees in the early morning hours, and it was only 5 degrees in Jordan Valley, OR. There’s a spine of mountains between Western and Eastern Idaho, so the folks in Idaho Falls have things a lot rougher… along with 3,000 ft more elevation

I've been so busy I haven't had time to go crawling the web for new things to occupy my time and build my sense of wonderment, so Steve has been doing that for me...

Witness, exhibit A, Marcin, a young Polish man who takes a very unusual and musically athletic approach to acoustic guitar.

Now, the strange and weird part comes in because a week ago I was scanning online lessons for the Led Zeppelin song Kashmir to download, one I've been wanting to learn for a while (I'm a fanboy of weird open string tunings, and the one used on Kashmir is weirder than most, a Drop D tuning using pentatonic related notes, sort of like a sitar- D-A-D-G-A-D), and not knowing I was doing that, Steve drops this music video on me the same day by a young Polish man going by the moniker of Marcin...

A hoodie? (you might wonder... ). Well, I'm something of a hoodie fan, in a small way, have several American Giant ones and give them away as Christmas presents, generally well received.

                                                                              But from a musician?

Well, as you all know, I'm just an impressionable young 69 year old, having eclectic tastes and little self restraint- and it is reputedly made in Poland from a special material developed there, very high quality. Friends of Marcin perhaps? Who knows?

I had forgotten I had my daughter's subwoofer hooked up for a movie. I never hear it when listening to music. Except that video. Quite the wake up call. LOL

Entertaining is a word I would use, and they hint pretty well at what you're likely getting with the subwoofer.
