A new take on cjds abouriou

So I've had a set of mtms on wall and they needed better look and cjd found a couple of flaws in the way they operate.

Small livingroom with limited space gives me no other possibility than to put them on wall and as thin as possible.

I have a design i've run through cjd and started producing part to see what she sounds like.

Not sure how the image will come out but here is the design.

More on the finished parts tomorrow. Work again in three hours

So, CJD is still alive and responding?
Tell him we miss him and he should come around some more.

Looks like you're off to a good start. I really like the name plate. Fancy. Did you do it or fab it out? Are you here in Chicagoland that I could get some done too?

Was there any discussion of making the sides more rounded or like one big seamless arch to more approach a true inwall?

It is bowing as is my front. The radius of the aluminium is about two mm bigger. Same as the element framing. I havent started machining the frames yet. I need to be sure the speakers work before i put to much work into it.

Sorry, no im in norway, but you know, shipping is no problem as long as size is within reason. Hmm arc inwall, like a half circle?

So we are finaly getting somewhere.

            Planned to do this

Decided to do this, more or less for not limiting the box so much

Glued the front. But forgot the photos.

I forgot to make space for the crossover, but I will rebuild it to fit in the bottom

Huh. I thought I had replied ages ago. Must have been on the train and it never sent.

This looks amazing. I'll be making some time to get some new data and stuff soonish.

The early racing season was insane (7 of 9 events completed for one series) and I'm building a quad of Bill F designed DR200's for my sister's band (3 more subs coming later) plus the usual house stuff. And work. And other stuff I don't much feel like discussing. Whee. Plus I'm a slacker. Still around, just focusing my energy.

slacker ftw. So I have both channels finished as of two weeks ago.
Cut the front aluminium cover for one side today, hopefully I get to milling it tomorrow. photos will follow shortly

Painted white, cannot seem to get proper white hue in the photos. Anyhow... not happy with the aluminium fronts. To much space around each element, can see the screws holding the elements here an there.

Old front design vs new. Smaller holes, removed and fixed som other chamfers. Added a radius to the center hole to keep the thick plate from interfering with the sound on the tweeter

                          New design.

Closeup on the tweeter, cone in and radius around the opening to keep the wall from directionalize the sound.

Both speakers. You can see all aluminiums detailing about 2mm from the bow front of the speaker itself.
There are relief slots on the insides of the aluminium front to keep it from touching the screws on the speakers (this was missing on the first version and could at times rattle or at least in my placebo ear).

I have to fix a better looking binding post system, diy gone wrong. But it works, more on that later.
Several points I can see as an engineer that is bad design in case of production. Will have to mitigate these problems if I do this again. Like fiksing my sub box closer to the summer.

As a bonus you guys can also se my kids christmas decorations.

Could you share some more details on your redesign?

Are these sealed? What are the final dimensions of the box? Are you using the same SEAS 27TDFC? Was the on-wall crossover schematic modified & can you post the schematic?

Reason why I'm asking is that I plan to build some Abourious for rear surrounds and I too have space limitations in my theater room. These would be great mounted on my walls.

Well details, you heard people talk about words and photos and their corrolations.
I’ll put up some drawings with some numbers and what kind of hardware I have inside.
It is based on the regular mtm. Chris are looking into making some new xovers for this speakers, That fit box and placement a bit better.
Bow front as you can see, sealed.

size of the box... in metrical units. height width and depth: 1000x250x110mm. thickness of the mdf is 19mm, and that would give us a volume of about 15liters. All elements is placed in the same plane. There is about 5mm between the innervall of the speaker and the bottom of the RSS150 speakers.
Tweeter is Dayton Audio RS28A-4 1-1/8" Aluminum Dome Tweeter.
Using the regular non on the wall xover. It works very well, but I cannot bare the thought of it not being as it is supposed to.
Will post the new xover when I get it, but as with everything else I do... It takes time.

Any issues with the RS150's operating in the shallow cabinet? How did you apply damping inside the cabinet?

No issues with rhe shallow box as i am aware of. Quite heavy polstering behing the element! Some audio dampening product of sorts white in color.
Reused what i used in the first set.

Yes i am pleased with them. BUT... i have not meassured them yet, and I know the xover isn't for wall hanging speakers.
I do not trust my ears, so I will have to bring in the microphone at some point and talk with cjd what he thinks.

For effort, well worth it. The shineyness is impossible to photograph, they look dull. People coming here and looking at them comment about how fine they are and that makes me somewhat proud of myself. Now the only problem bothering me is the binding posts. Will have to share photos of those.... did not look the way I imagined it!!!

Metal working is my profession so I believe it is to be expected, but thank you anyways.
