Meniscus speaker DIY get together Sept 17th....

I'm not the one planning it, nor do I have all of the info, but this is scheduled for Sept 17, 2016 in Grand Rapids, MI at Meniscus headquarters. It's a non-competition event, and will be very laid back.

I'm sure there will be more info posted over at Meniscus' forum as it gets closer....

There are times I wish I lived in the upper midwest USA, as there are many interesting activities like this-

Interesting choice for a project name- it is somewhat unusual to name a speaker after a moth.



I applaud the use of a built in passive high pass filter for a small ported system such as this. Several German companies build this in, even for the largest speakers, such as Gauder Akustik.

The passive highpass circuit "Rumble switch" is for situations where any speaker I build will have questionable output/extension in a large room. I made it switchable to make most speakers happy. It is not built in in the xover case, but an auxiliary circuit for when it's needed. At home, I don't need the circuit on the Cecropia, but I did test it and have seen the results. I need to finish the case-build of them and get the pictures uploaded.



The moth was a constant Spring site at my parents' home growing up, as they love Lilac bushes. My folks had one adjacent to the back porch, and they'd like sitting on the porch railings to 'make more moths'. These bugs sometimes have 5" wingspans, and I was always fascinated by them and their bold colors. I applied this color scheme to the speaker, and I think they came out rather nice:



I remove the grills to listen when it's just me around.

I'm sticking this thread so it will be visible without having to bump it for now. Looks like it would be a fun meet to be at (these things usually are, like the occasional Northern CA DIY meet- which due to work the last two years I couldn't get away to go...)

I am helping to plan the annual CKY-DIY speaker DIY event for November in (likely) Lexington, KY. We are looking into sites currently, and it will either be the 12th or 19th.

I'll keep this updated as I learn more.

Meniscus DIY this year will be Sept 20/21 in Grand Rapids:

This year we have teamed up with Dan and Kerry from CSS Audio to host the anual 2019 DIY event here in Grand Rapids, MI

The Friday event will be an informal get together on Fri, Sept 20, from 5-? Plan on participaing in another "switching" event. Not sure what Dan has up his sleeve, but I have a few ideas.

Pizza and beer (in moderation please) are provided.

Another Roof toss is also planned. If you have a contribution, bring it along!

A few weeks ago we found out that our Holiday Inn contact had left without notice and that the hotel had turned the event room into a larger kitchen and eating space. A mad scramble turned up the space right near us. The room is larger. There is an on site resturant and bar, so lunch break will be convenient. A block of sleeping rooms are reserved for Friday (not much of a discount) Deadline Sept 1.

UPDATE:
Due to the concerns of pretty much everyone USA-wide about COVID19, I'm adding some additional information to this thread. At the moment, I have clarified with the Hampton that they will be open as long as they can be, and are still running as usual until further notice.

As of today 3/20/2020, we are still on for InDIYana 2020 on April 24/25. At the same time, eateries may become a problem as dining-in is pretty much prohibited and several businesses have stopped allowing entrance and gone exclusively to drive-up/pick-up types of orders. The Domino's and having pizza is still a likely solution at this time, or you can bring your own or go get your own food. Barring any further push of out-of-schooling, businesses closing down, or government mandating, this is how it will likely be. The limbo of the varying moment kind of has us by the throat and we have to evaluate as it comes. Please be patient as we see how this all shakes out.

In short synopsis, if InDIYana will be postponed or cancelled, the decision will be made by 2 weeks from today if not before. And- even if one of these results occurs, 2021 will still happen. 2021's itinerary/scheduling will respond/result from the fallout of the InDIYana 2020 situation.

....and here it is, the decision- We have postponed 2020 to the following year. We're going to call 2021 a belated 2020 and host and translate in hindsight everything that would have been 2020 in LaPorte, IN in 2021. Website has been updated to reflect this change.
