Hi All -
New member and would appreciate opinions on a suitable speaker design / kit for my home office. I've built many pairs over the years, however the last one was probably 15 years ago...So I've been out of the game for a while and thus don't know the hot new drivers. My main rig is all Vandersteen (3A Sig, VCC-5, VSM-1 + Danley DTS-10 sub), and I have Magnepans plus an SVS sub in the MBR. Finally, I have a DIY pair in my workshop I love, but was more than I want to spend (Dual Scanspeak 7" kevlar mid/woof + SS tweet, 2.5 way TMM design).
I suspect this is a well worn question so feel free to simply point me in the right direction. Requirements below.
* $500 budget for drivers/xovers...could go higher but don't feel the need
* 2 or 2.5 way
* Would rather not use a sub at this point (cost, simplicity)
* Room dimensions = 14 x 15 x 9 = 210 sq ft, 1890 cu ft
* Will be used for background music, NPR, podcasts. Mostly electronic trance, some house, jazz, & alternative. Need to be able to handle short stints up to ~85db.
* Will likely be powered by a modest 2 ch receiver - let's say 60-75 watts. All digital sources.
* I'm a woodworker so complicated enclosures are not an issue....but then again I don't want to spend multiple weekends building them, either.
Thanks in advance!
