Please welcome 5th Element as our newest element toward excellent DIY

Thomas W just has some other stuff going on now. He's been reading, but not contributing. So, he's moving to the backburner position. He'll still be a moderator, at least for now, but not dedicated to DIY. We are fortunate to have Matt (5th Element) join us on staff to help keep the wheels greased, and the drivers thumping.

If he ever tries to "take the 5th", when someone is looking for an answer, just let me know, ,and we'll strong arm him together, haha.

Welcome to the good ship lolly pop Matt!

Jon suggested him, well, that was good enough for me Especially, since he's the one going to be working with him, lol.

Have fun and guys, build something, will ya?

Thanks guys (and Jon for the recommendation), I think the biggest issue might be making sure to select the right options when people want things changing with threads - such as merging threads etc. But I can always ask someone if it isn't clear.

And to the comment of simply carrying on posting, sharing and having fun, I can only ask that you all do the same!

Congrats! Just don't forget to post more driver tests like the excellent B&W FST and the recent SB Acoustic reviews. I think testing comes with the moderator role, just ask Jon...

Oh yeah, +1 on that Jonas! I've got a few to catch up with myself, but you know, this tends to go in cycles? Driver tests, then builds, then system tests! Then reset and start over! :W :B

And to think that we used to know 5th Element back when he was just a regular kind of a guy like the rest of us.
              Congrats, man!

ThomasW is going to be a hard act to follow. He was a great contributor. Though he hasn't been around in a while, we should all thank him for his huge contributions to this hobby and the internet.

                      Matt,
I think it is great that you're stepping up and helping out as a mod. I wish you luck. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about with overstepping or not knowing when to merge or moderate. It has been pretty tame here for a while.

Personally, I would love to see the sub-forums go away, except for archive worthy threads. I think they too easily split up the little traffic around here - I often don't visit the sub forums. I think some of the stickies and FAQ's could go or be cleaned up to. My guide to HT Guide speakers thread could probably also use some work to fix broken photo links and add a few projects, but people have proven that they don't read it, so....

And Jon, thanks for reminding me. I need some 3M Commander Hooks. Those things are sooooo handy.

You guys are making me misty-eyed. I should send Jon some blue painter's tape - he uses it like there's no tomorrow!

Hey- I could have GF take a picture of me in the 3M mask/cartridge set I use for lacquer spraying, but it might cause liability issues with scaring small children... OTOH, there's probably not many small children on the forum at this point!

Yeah, I do use bucket loads of the 3M blue painters tape. There was a white tape you guys discontinued that I liked a lot for taping up items and marking cutting points- we've discussed it before, but I can't remember the part number at the moment... I miss that stuff!

Ryan, absolutely, Jon and Thomas together, were like the dynamic duo here for so long. I'll miss that myself. I know just how much they contributed together and apart. Thomas is setting up his shop, and he's of course, got some other priorities too, who knows, he may be back someday to pitch in again, we never know. If nothing else, maybe he will show us some stuff he's done.

I am very appreciative of ThomasW's efforts here for many many years. He's always got a home to come back to, as long as I am the headmaster... Doesn't matter who's name is there as a Mod, once a mod always a mod at HTG. We don't burn bridges. We leave it open for guys to activate and de-activate at times. We know things happen in life that dicate this at times.

Fortunately, we have a few die hards that keep going regardless. Jon comes to mind. :-)

I miss Thomas - he kept my shilling down to a background noise level. Jon is more of a very tolerant parent. 5th Element will be a great mod.

Water? I never drink it myself - fish pee in it! :rf Top shelf tequila is another story, as Jon knows :drinker:

BTW, we (Austin Symphonic Band) played a kick-butt Fathers Day concert at Zilker Park Hillside Theater. Kicked it off with Marche Hongroise (Hungarian March) from Berlioz' "Damnation of Faust", then some Stephen Sondheim, a dollop of Gershwin, John Williams' "March from the Movie 1941", etc, etc. Great crowd.

                                            Rambling switch off.

Sounds like something I really would have liked to heard, but wasn't in the neighborhood, unfortunately! We had a nice dinner with daughter and her fiancé and worked a bit on planning the concrete pad and storage shed for the back yard (GF has a BIG back yard).

Top shelf Tequila is great, GF is still annoyed that I do drink water, but from Fiji, Italy, or New Zealand... it's a strange world we live in where that is possible!
