    Crossover help

I build the ministatements before I got married over a year ago, because I new my wife would not let have big speakers. For fanancial reasons I had to downgrade to an apartment and dont have room for the speakers. in additon to this my 11 months daughter who now learned to walk is very interested in the tb w4. I had to turned facing the wall and more than once she had grabbed herself to the transmission tunel and if it wasn't because some was there the speaker would have fall on top her, so now i have to get rid of them. I was allowed to have small speakers that i can put them on the wall. I was thinking in building the Modulas MT but right now dont have the money to invest in new speakers and if i skip a few lunches i'll get enough for the xover parts. so I thought i could work around the Modula MT but use the NeoCD3 and reuse the driver i have on hand. i used Xover pro to desing a xover but i could not get right. I will post some pics later maybe someone can point me in the right direction. i will greatly appreciate all help i can get.

    Haha ... good stuff :T

I'm still wondering why it's so difficult for men to simply put their foot down and tell their wives:
"look honey ... this is how it's going to be ... you get to choose any room in the house in which you may do whatever you desire ... and I will get to choose any room in which I get to do whatever I desire ... okay?"

Letting small children near fine speakers isn't an option either ... my 2,5-year-old is allowed in my studio for watching movies or listening to music, but always under supervision and playing or throwing stuff is strictly prohibited inhere.

Try it ... it worked wonders for me

For what I know the NeoCD3 and RS180 won't play nicely together, but you can use the W4 and the NeoCD3 for the R4 of the lineup:

Or get another pair of w4 and go for the R44.

This is a glaring example of the need for pre-neptual agreements ("Said husband shall have his choice of DIY speakers.") :W

yakusa: my bud added a false bottom to his towers' normal bases and put 13 pounds of lead shot in each cavity just so his grandkids couldn't tip them over. It has worked for 5 years and 6 grandkids.

                  Good luck.

yakusa, first off x-over pro is not that good for xover design. I would suggest reading the articles under resources (right side of page).

DIY gives music lovers and audiophiles the ultimate power. First of all, DIY speakers use the same parts, building materials (usually), and design techniques of HiFi speakers in the 4 and 5-figure range. This means you can have that "rich" sound at a fraction of the retail cost. Second, by

Especially the article titled "I want to design a loudspeaker. What measurement equipment and software do I need to buy?"

You know, though, I don't know if this gets any better as they age!

I'm building speakers for my teenagers right now, and I'm planning on putting grilles on them, so that they, or probably more like it, their friends, don't feel the "need" to touch the drivers.

While I can't really offer you any speaker choices, I can definitely recommend that you consider grilles, as evil as they may be. That should at least stop the the direct contact.

The other piece of advice, that won't really help you now, is that I tell all my friends considering marriage, especially when they're young, GET EVERYTHING THAT YOU EVER WANTED NOW, before you get married, because once you're married, it's no longer your money, it's OUR money at best, or more likely her money. And "our" money, or "her" money, probably isn't going to buy you speakers or something like a motorcyle. It will only go for silly things like houses, clothes (for her), and shoes (for her)...

                      Good luck...

Yeah, and it's hard to have kids without being married, but not impossible.

But, kids are great, and there's no doubt about that. Keeping them out of things, though, is a whole other matter. You said that she's 11 months, and just learning / starting to walk, so she's using ANYTHING at her fingetips to pull up on. That WILL go away, when she's out of this "beginning" stage, but that may take 6 months or so, but it should fade.

Been there, done that, and for me that part of my life is over, until grandkids.

                          I feel for ya man...

Jeds lineup series were what I was thinking of. I guess it depends on what your listening preferences are, but I reckon that the two way that Jed has, based around the Neo3 and the W4 would give you better results overall, then cobbling something together between the ill mated Neo3 and the RS180.

The crossovers of the lineup W4+Neo3 are also relatively simple and use cheap and readily available parts. As the cabinets are small and therefore quite painless to construct, I'd give them and go and see what you think. The only thing that they wont do is go ridiculously loud or have much bass extension, but then that's what a small and easily concealable sub is for.

I know what children are like when it comes to loudspeakers. I have distinct memories of pushing in shiny dustcaps when I can't have been more then a couple of years old!

After days of working in the crossover, this is the best i could do. I am a newbie and let me tell you that it was some days that I was very frustrated. I take my hat off to those of you that make magic with crossover.

Something that I notice immediately is the lack in the mid frequencies, I guess the W4 makes a huge difference. Also, (maybe that experts can enlighten me) is that I have to crank a little more my amplifier. With the minis i had the volume at 1 and now i have to go to 3 to get the same volume. I know that that i'm compering an MT against an WWMT. thank for all the advise.

What's wrong with the phase? Also, how are you getting the measurements?

The RS-180 directivity will differ from the tweeter at that frequency which does weird things off axis. Not sure the peaking will be good either but hard to be sure from a graph. Where

As for the amp... is that the -4 or -8? Assuming they we previously wired in parallel, you lost 6dB of sensitivity going to one midwoofer.
