Hello all,
I am just starting to assemble and test cross overs in my new cabinets and I have a question on Cabinet lining.
Each side has 3 cabinets, two base bins with 2x 10" HiVi D10.8 Woofers and then a separate mid/treble cabinet.
On the base bins, I have constructed these out of heavily braced 25mm MDF, then lined the entire enclosure with 3mm bitumen and then 25mm Acoustic foam. The enclosure has the acoustic foam and bitumen on all internal surfaces including the curved sides.
When I go to test these, I am finding the bass sounds restricted or somewhat muffled. There is a single rear port which doesnt seem to have much effect. The cabinets are large, 130+ litres and tuned to about 30Hz... currently a little disappointed.
Any suggestion on the Acoustic foam lining? Should I have this on all of the internal walls? Should I have any at all? The bitumen is all lined and sealed on the surfaces with a material mesh on the surface. Does it make sense to try the cabinets without the 25mm thick acoustic foam?
Any suggestions would be appreciated...
Cheers
