    One amazing DIY speaker

The builder doesn't have a website so I just took pics from a gallery. I don't have any additional info.

Gawd I'm jealous of someone having that much spare time to spend on speaker building! Very righteous project....

If they sound as nice as they look...WOW!

That must have been a lot of sanding. Wrapped in fiberglass, maybe?

Kind of makes you want to take early retirement and move to Austin, doesn't it?
Color me impressed and intrigued! 8O
Do you think that's fiberglas? I dunno... Nautilis clones, eh? What "gallery" did you find them in? Whoever you are out there, please disclose yourself. Inquiring minds want to know.
Reminds me of some Nautilus clones at a Chinese mfgr's booth at C.E.S. last year. Speaking of which, is anyone going next month? I'll be there. Of course we know Jon will be working

Sorry, but I just don't get the whole cloning thing.....and why would a person want to clone something as hideous looking as that?

            Cheers,

            Davey.

"Form follows function" says Fank Loyd Wright

Many people (myself included) consider the Nautilis to be quite interesting from a artisitc standpoint.

Personally I find the concept, the design and it's implementation fasinating

From a speaker designer's prospective it's a very interesting design too. The goal of the 'original' B&W Nautilus design was to create a design that eliminated destructive cabinet colorations

As for cloning in general it's a two fold idea.

1)learn what the original designers learned with they created the speaker
2)have a design similar to the original for a fraction the cost

Well, I hope you didn't take my comment about cloning the wrong way. It was actually a compliment.

I see in many forums individuals (you, Jon and a few others in this one) that have the capabilities to easily best commerical designs so I don't understand why those folks would target a commercial design and all the trade-offs associated with it? The DIY approach has large, built-in advantage so I think it must be exploited to the maximum.

Regarding the Nautilis....I guess my artistic point of view is not as well developed as many folks. I still think that thing is hideous looking. Ha!

Best regards and happy holidays to all.

                Cheers,

                Davey.

                  No problem....

As I said I think they are 'interesting' from a design standpoint, I've always been fasinated by the geometry of the cut-away chambered nautilus shells. That being said, the speakers certainly wouldn't fit in with my current home decorating style.

                    Why clone them?

                    Answers:
                    1. Why not?
                    2. Designer challenge.
                    3. Original Natilus cost what, 40 grand, right?

Interesting project, and gobs of talent there. Forget the fact they are butt ugly really. lol. When you close your eyes, it's how they sound that matters most anyway.

Always fascinated by the Natilus, not to say I really love the appearance myself. It's sort of like a horn thing. Either you love them, tollerate them, or hate them. If they sounded great, I guess I'd fall somewhere in the middle.

Yeah, we've heard Lex is a horny kind of guy.

The chamber design is rather cool and interesting - on several fronts - but the finished look of that type of speaker is a bit too "Flash Gordon" for me. That doesn't stop me from humbly acknowledging a beautifully finished product tho'. Kudos to whomever it is that built them.

One mighty serious piece of work. Hope he or she put as much effort into the crossovers as the cabinets..
