    Richards Minuets thread

    Hi all.

I am at it again, this time a pair of Clearwaves Minuets. I chose these as I wanted to build a speaker using very high quality components, can use a PE cabinet and uses a baffle design that I can produce relatively cheaply out of granite.

I have a couple of options in mind on how to fasten the baffle to the cab. I am hoping that I will be able to install threaded anchors in the back side of the baffle that line up with the PE screw locations. If it is possible I will attach the baffle from the inside of the cabinet so there are no fasteners showing on the front.

Going to house the crossovers in the granite base of the stand with the binding posts on the back side of the base. I want a nice clean cable free look.

Still debating on which granite to use, was hoping to get some feedback on my choices.

I am leaning towards the black pearl or the tan brown.

    All opinions are welcome

In order the granites are black galaxy, black pearl, tan brown and kilimanjaro.

Going with the Tan Brown, thanks for the feedback.

I had already made the granite bases out of Black Pearl so will have to keep them for the next project. I thought I could still use them but they begin to look too busy.

Hope to have some pics of completed bases and baffles by the end of the week.

Now you are making me completely jealous! I love my Minuets. Let me know what you would want for a second pair of baffles. Are you also contemplating the matching center channel, or are you just doing a stereo pair?

Just a stereo pair, I will add a pair of Seas L26Roy subs with PR at some point. These are for 2 channel only.

I have Statement Monitors and Zaph center and surrounds for HT right now. My HT room is kinda pathetic, when I finally pull the trigger on a new house I will add the Statements to my HT set up.

What finish do you have on your Minuets? Do you have a build thread?

                I sent you a PM.

Finally some progress. Been swamped at work.

Still have to back cut the driver holes and finish the lams on the cabinets and stand legs.

May not be the baffles that end up on my speakers, took delivery of some Antique Brown that will look killer with the Bubinga.

                  More pictures soon.

you need to champher the rear of the woofer openings for airflow

Loving the baffle aesthetics. Looks fantastic.

As was mentioned, just make sure you have enough air flow around the cutout. You may have enough, your pics just make it look like the whole thing is encapsulated.

                          Thanks for the feed back.
Chamfering is what I meant by back cutting the driver holes. Will get to that this week end.

Some pictures of a baffle for the Minuets in Blue Pearl. Hard to see in the pictures but the backs of the drivers are chamfered.

I think the black drivers look fantastic in that stone! Too bad they are not for my speakers. I should have pictures of mine by Tuesday.

Indeed, that looks quite nice. I would be more inclined to do a chamfer on the edges instead of a round-over (aesthetic preference only). Keep up posting the pics!

I know it has been a while since I have posted but I finally have some pictures of actual progress. I have changed my mind so many times on not only my cabinet material (granite or wood) but the color of granite once I decided to do another all granite build.

I finally pulled the trigger and fabricated the entire speaker and stand in Antique Brown granite. It has taken a while as I had other projects to finish and my business has picked up considerably.

The cabinet is 1" thick and the stand is 1 1/4". These bad boys are heavy!

I am now a weekend away from actually listening to the Minuets, hard to believe I got my kit from Jed in Oct. of last year!

This weekend I will install the internal bracing, dampening material and glue on the baffles. The crossovers will be mounted in the base of the stand for a nice clean look from the back.

When finished I am taking them to a professional photographer for some good reflection free pictures. I will post them when I have them. These pictures do not do the granite justice, the depth of color and the iridescent minerals do not show well in my shots.

I absolutely love the speakers, WOW. WOAH WOW. Unreal.

I do find the stands to be a bit much for my taste, but those speakers......oof. B E A UTIFUL.

                                      Thanks Joey!

I will have the speakers fully assembled and working by Thursday.

I have been debating on the stand, it is a lot of granite! I may replace the stone pillar, I am thinking of a caramelized bamboo veneer.I have some at my shop and it goes very well with the granite.

I would imagine that the decor of the house would dictate if all that granite looks out of place or not.
