Even relying only on measurements, it is safe to say that there are clear and present differences. Whether that is worth spending your credits on is a choice for you to make.

Thank you for your responses. The Accuton is awfully nice, huh. Well, I do think that for me the RS100 is tough to beat at the price. And it makes it even tougher for me to justify going to the extra expense for the Accuton. Your knowledge and skill is very appreciated. Thank you all for sharing with the unworthy minions. ;x(

Fortunately the Chancellor has secured new funding through the Imperial Senate, and at this point there are no obvious financial obstacles to completion of the current projects.

Excuse the tangential question, but can floppy cones work in the Duelund topology? Or would their floppiness foil the phase tracking?

Think about this- all cones are pistonic at some low frequency, and all cones become "floppy" to one degree or another at some higher frequency, usually exhibiting bending mode behaviors involving energy storage prior to out right break up- (the typical on axis dip prior to the break up peak is a very visible example, as parts of the cone are lagging and radiating out of phase- like a Seas W22 at 2 kHz and above before the breakup mode. So, is polypropylene as used in a HiVi D6.8 "floppy"? Not within the range used in the NeoD CC, up to 2 kHz. But metal, which is not considered "floppy" as a rule, can behave in floppy ways and at lower frequencies. This is where the cone design and driver comes into play, and admittedly, the HiVi D6.8 is not very typical of plastic cone 6-1/2" drivers with it's 3" voice coil and very short stiff frame support.

The best determinant of whether the driver is being floppy or not is shaped sine burst testing - CSD plots can also be revealing, and are faster, but more difficult to interpret.

Last, our standard way of testing frequency response shows the gross macro behavior and phase- it will not reveal linear distortions such as this. As you note, phase tracking is an issue- but any significant deviation from smooth amplitude response does show up in the phase response. At what range down in level this becomes less important is a judgement call the designer must make- and it certainly complicates driver selection.
