    Midrange...interesting new driver

What about this for a midrange covering 600-4000Hz?

    Specs look nice.
Direct coupled dome, low Mms, copper ring, flat impedance...
I don't have any figure about non-linear, IM and THD distortion, though.
Would it be a good candidate for this specific use?

Hi Guys, I am seriously thinking of building a nice 3-way system. One of the things I was hoping to get some input on is driver selection. I saw Jed's system which is absolutely wicked but the combination of drivers would probably put it out of my budget. I can pick a more expensive driver but it would need to be compensated

In short: the German DIY magazine HobbyHifi measured the driver this month, the distortion plots look pretty good. Except for the plastic basket I think this could be a very interesting driver.

You can use this driver between 600-4000 Hz, but all depends on your cross-over.

In order to avoid the cone break-up (starting one octave higher @ 8 kHz) and to prevent too much beaming which starts around 4 kHz you need to cross rather steep at 4 kHz.

      Hello TacoD

      Thanks for the link!
Yes, I was figuring LR4 as Low-pass function.
Also the plastic chassis is deceiving, like you say.
But would you have the link for this test on HobbyHifi?
      Thanks!

BTW: It and it's sister 830986 are on sale at Madisound.

Free support for loudspeaker projects, sourcing OEM speaker building supplies, and passive crossover design. We sell raw speaker drivers (tweeters, woofers, subwoofer, midrange drivers, full range drivers), speaker kits, amplifiers, capacitors, resistors, and inductors.

            Hello TacoD

Since no test are available on the net concerning the subject about 830987, could it be possible for you tu scan this test from Hobby Hifi?
My favorite was Peerless 4" 830881 but it has been discontinued.
So I was looking for an equivalent.
            Thanks
