Chiming in a bit late on the tweeter hole issue... I did my first with a 1 3/8" Forstner bit and a hand-held cordless drill, then widened it a bit with a small drum sander on the same drill. It worked surprisingly well, as the Forstner bit does a neat job of scoring around the perimeter of the hole as you go with layers of mdf sort of peeling cleanly up and away at lower speeds (and I found lower speeds helpful in keeping my less-than-perfect hand alignment from creating enough friction to scorch the material).
I later bought a 1 7/16" Forstner to use for a desktop monitor project and it is indeed a perfect fit, but I'd picked up a cheap "good enough to get the job done" drill press from Harbor Freight in the interim.
