    Crossover parts selection

    Hi Everyone,

I would like to put together a kit of crossover components that would allow me to do quick crossover prototyping for 2 way systems (Let's say for 5" & 6.5" woofer).

I don't have alot of money so i don't want to waste it on components that I'm not likely to use.

What would you buy ? What Caps & Coil values would you use ?

    For TEST purpose :
    - Caps : Is electrolytic enought ?
    - Inductor : Is 18 AWG or 20 AWG enought ?

Is there any deal out there that would allow me to save money ?

    Any recommandations/comments will be appreaciated.

    Thanks,
    NyxOne

If you search you'll find plenty of discussion regarding electrolytic caps.

Bigger gauge wire should be used for inductors on woofers.

      Hi ThomasW,

thanks for the comment. I've done a simple research and found out a few thread that let me think that Electrolytic Caps are "Ok" for Test purpose and even final crossover depending on the application (eg: no electrolytic caps with a Scanspeak Revelator woofer/tweeter )

This thread seems very educative so I'll read it tonight!

About inductor : Would 16 AWG be enought ? Is that for both the woofer and tweeter or will smaller gauge(18-20) do the work for tweeter ? Those things are really pricey...

Any recommendations on values (for both inductor & caps) ?

      Thanks,
