Fireplace Sub??

Thinking about a project for the new year, I've got an unused fireplace in the living room / HT#1, with a decorative door that buzzes and rattles from infrasonics during chase scenes, explosions, any low bass. The FP opening is 3'w x 2'h, and... uhhh.. I wass kinda thinking about putting some subwoofers into a flat piece of 2 x 3 ply and trying out the opening as an IB sub... 8O :B

Or would this be some sort of transmission line, with the flue behind the subs open to the great outdoors? Currently, there are chimney swifts living in there, as I haven't had a fire in 12 years or so... guess they might have to learn to live with some bass??? :twisted: :lol:

Anyone have any thoughts on this...?

This topic comes up at least once a year...

Using a fireplace as described results in the creation of a grossly mistuned TL. And one has to deal with issues of the flue rattling and other such nasties

IMO the best bet in this situation is to make a sealed or ported box that slides into the firebox.
