    Adire ADA 1200 trouble

I was just curious, has anyone with an ADA series amp from Adire had trouble with their subwoofer amplifier?

Mine is being repaired at the moment, and I'm wondering if I'm not alone?

    nope.

I own 2 ADA-1200 for two sealed Tumults.
Never a lick of trouble. What sorta trouble
    did you encounter?

I wish I had picked up a few more of their
plate amps before they left the market.

I had a small metal film cap crap out on it, which seem to have taken out the output transistors - suspected cause was shorted speaker leads, but I confirmed with both an ohmmeter and a insulation tester that the voice coils were indeed good. It was a very loud bamk, even when it was in it's own enclosure.

I think there might be some more problems that I can't see yet, as according to the schematic there is a lot of "component topography" in between the failed components.

Well, it's been out for repair for two months,
        I'm starting to miss it.

          ADA1200 Troubles

          Well,

I bought one several years ago, and just put it into service for the first time a few weeks ago. I actually used it 5 times - when I turned it on the sixth last weekend, I heard a pop, and the amp is now dead... It cost almost $700.00 CDN when I bought the thing.

I hope nothing is seriously wrong with it.

          :<(....

Mine blew the coupling cap highlited in the photo, which in turn took out both output transistors mounted between the heat sink and the main amplifier board.

The schematic for the plate amp shows a lot of components between the capacitor and the two output transistors, so I'm concerned that the damage might be more extensive than just those three components.

            Time (and money) will tell.

My mom doesn't think hers is working right, but it's buried right now in storage so I can't begin to find out.

Still no problems with mine.....Look to see if your fuse has blown.

In fact I'm considering buying an ADA300 from someone.

I wish Hypex woulda continued to make their plate amps.
Adire used to sell these & they were top notch. I had 2 of
the 200 watters powering Shivas in a M&K style sub. Damn fine.
An aquaintance did the same with the Hypex 500 he used the
original Tempests in an M&K style sub. I beleive Thomas did a
Shiva isobaric with a Hypex 200. Shiva Too!

This was back in the Basslist days.....

Yeap, did a Shiva isobaric but have never owned a plate amp.

I received an e-mail this AM - it's been repaired, updated, calibrated and smoke tested.

                    I'm happy.

And last night, I received it (wow, was it packed well, triple boxed, bubble wrapped, packing foam and two pillows).

It had been updated to the latest revision, tested and calibrated, a 24 hour burn-in, re-tested, and then sent to me.

I connected it, and it worked.
