    Spl Meter

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to purchase a spl meter and thought I would ask you guys which one is pretty decent. I don't want to spend too much, I would prefer around $40 or less if possible. It would be nice if I could get a unit that would be able to hook up to a laptop and plot out a frequency plot chart on excel or something. I'm not very familiar with all this so excel probably won't be the recommended choice.

I was thinking of getting the radio shack version, seems popular, but should I get the analog or digital? The 5 channel statements build that I made sounds awesome already, but I thought I would begin sound treating my room and I would like to take some measurements first.

On another note, I thought I read somewhere about a chart that gave correction values for the rat shack meter because under a certain frequency it became less accurate.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Nate

The only low cost meter with corrections available is the RS.

Analog or digital is really a personal choice. It's quicker to read the analog unit, but personally I prefer a digital readout.

I have a Radio Shack meter and a more expensive one from Galaxy. I use the RS one for home use and the Galaxy one for business. But, in all reality I have never had a problem with the RS one. The only reason I don't take the Galaxy home is it is a company service unit, plus my Radio Shack meter works pretty well.

I honestly don't think you are going to find much better than the RS one for under $40.
