How much dipole?

I'm wanna know what your experiences are when it comes to dipoles that are not dipoles all the way. My current system is dipole from 20hz to 1500hz and monopole 1500hz to 20khz. Would I gain anything by making it dipole all the way to 20khz or will that just complicate things? Or is it the other way round, better to go monopole above, let's say 500hz?

What's your opinions/experiences?
