When using an elbow on a port...

When using an elbow on a port is there any particular calculation required? Is the volume of the port what needs to remain consistent or is there more to it?

    Ie. 3”dia x 10” port = aprox 70in2
When using an elbow for the 3” tube would I keep to total volume at 70in2?

You want to keep the port length the same.

Measure along the centreline to see how much length is added by the elbow, and thus needs to be trimmed from the straight sections.

Avoid elbows that have a sharp turn on the inside of the bend. Sometimes you'll need to go to a plumber's supplier to get one with a smooth inside bend.

You should try to look for at least a "long radius" elbow. Any decent plumbing store will know what it is (not a 16 yr old kid at Menards)

If the LR elbow follows piping standards, the bend radius will be 1.5 times the diameter of the pipe. The longer the radius, the less pressure drop you'll have so you'll gain a bit of headroom b/f your port starts to "chuff"
