    Got curves?

I don't know if someone else already mentioned this but I saw an ad on the back of my audioXpress mag for Dayton's new curved cabinets.

Pretty nice option if you ask me.

I'll have some pictures of the 0.5ft^3 model soon. They look pretty sexy from the pictures though.

They're got a 1 cu ft version, too. But it would be nice if they did something a little larger....

like maybe 40L and tall enough that with spikes you could bottom port it and not have stands...

Buy 4 of PE's new high excursion 8". Place 2 in bass bins under each NeoD...

Looks like the backs are all 4.5" wide so you wouldn't be able to use a Precision port on the back. PE has some others that look like they might fit or you could use a straight pipe. The good news is they kept the baffle dimensions the same so no XO changes for designs using the straight cabinets.

                        Does anyone know;

                        1) how the magnetic grill fasteners work? Is this feature on the straight side type as well?
                        2) the rabbet depth of the front baffle. Thinking of making a thicker one with more roundover or possibly hardwood.
                        3) how did they curve the MDF?

                        internal pictures anyone?

                        Thanks for any info.

                          1) Surprisingly well. The magnets are on (in) the grill frame, and they sit over the heads of the cap screws that hold the baffle on the box.

                          2) 1/2 inch, 1/2 roundover

                          3) there’s no kerfing on the inside, but there is visible lamination (6 layers) on the edge of the side panels. The lamination is very uniform. The stock could have been manufactured with the curved shape, or sheets assembled and pressed (rolled) around a mold later.

I saw this at the RMAF. Nice looking. If you are looking to buy some, there's a show special that gives you $$off. ie the .38cf is $69.23 on that flyer.

The trick is to flip the port around and use the inside portion on the outside. Fits great!

Here is one from the front.

What is the advantage of using a sexy curved enclosure like this? Is it just for looks?

Yes... the waves get lazy in these curved enclosures. They tend to lay down and you get a higher proportion of "laying down" waves vs. "standing ones".

Union workers tend to like the curved walls. Business owners like the straight ones.
