"Extras" needed to build a crossover

It's been quite a while since I've last posted. I got my boxes ready for the Nat P's and I am ordering the last pieces of the crossover sometime this week. What other items besides the inductors, resistors, and caps would I need in order to put the crossover together? Often I see people using some sort of long clear thing like in this pic:

What is that and where do i get some :P Is there anything else I'm missing? Also, on a side note, what type of binding posts do you guys use?

What long clear thing? I see a coil, a cap, some wires and a terminal strip. Also, something that looks like a flared port.

I think he's talking about the terminal strips.

Overlooked or handy items for building crossovers, in my experience-

-Zip ties, good for attaching things to each other, and they don't shake loose.
-Hot glue or caulk, not for structural use so much as to ensure that things don't rattle when they're held together with zip ties
-Fine sand paper, it's good for clearing the ends of inductors if the enamel insulation goes too far and they aren't already nicely tinned.
-A variable power soldering iron, even better is temperature control with decent power
-Liquid flux, it really helps the solder flow and wet things

I used the gold plated binding posts from Parts Express:

They're probably overkill, but at least I don't stay up at night worrying that my sound is getting corroded

You could go with just about any binding posts and do quite well- I've seriously left wires hanging out before and just twisted the bare wires together for a connection, and it worked. Spring terminals annoy me, though, as well as the screw-downs where there's not a good positive place to stick the wire through.

Bingo, those are them. I didn't see any at madisound though (which is where I'm going to place my order). Are they available anywhere else? Also... what are they used for?

Just to keep things tidy. You don't really NEED them.

Madisound doesn't sell them which is why I posted the link.

If you google 'Euro style terminal strips' you'll find more places that sell them.

                I wouldn't build a crossover without them...

You can also get terminal strips at Radio Shack.

Are you guys using terminal strips instead of soldering, or in addition to it?

                      in addition.

Typically just for the input and woofer output.

I found the terminal strips at Lowes in strips of 12 for around $3-$4

I wonder... can you cut them?

like if you only need 6 connections on each side?

Yes, a nice pair of wire cutting pliers, aka dykes, does the job very easily.

awesome... I'll definatly have to pick some of those up when I build my Modulas ...
