    Fostex T250D

Anyone know anything about this Fostex tweeter apart from the expensive price and the lack of(?) high frequency break up? It's supposed to be a pure mag-dome too...

Free support for loudspeaker projects, sourcing OEM speaker building supplies, and passive crossover design. We sell raw speaker drivers (tweeters, woofers, subwoofer, midrange drivers, full range drivers), speaker kits, amplifiers, capacitors, resistors, and inductors.

I didn't pick up right off the bat that they were taking that all the way out to 100K...
I imagine it beams a skosh at that frequency, but the lack of breakup out to 50 kHz and beyond is pretty remarkable, if true. I can only measure reliably to ~40 kHz. (192 kHz sampling rate, mic response good to ~45 kHz.)

May be a Three Way Design Study candidate. Without Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. It's big! Physically...

Thanks for the heads up... as "different" as much Fostex stuff is, I'd likely never be browsing the new things from them at Madisound, though they have a ridiculously priced 15" woofer that might be interesting for dipole use.

I trust Fostex graphs and OJ Simpson with a knife about the same.

I saw that tweeter too, but come on, how on earth do they expect us DIYers to flush mount it? Yeah, I know, make a custom jig, but what a pain. And that flange is huge.

          It's not all that hard.

Cut a felt baffle panel to mate with the tweeter... same thing I did with Focal's all the time.

Not terribly efficient in the upper range if the graph is to be trusted. 83-84 @ 20 kHz? And those ripples suggest either poor measurement setup, or resonances for the rear wave from the diaphragm. Interesting, but hard to justify testing for the price of entry, considering the relative "safety" of something like the 66000. Still, wish I had a hard dome tweeter that would go out that high without a breakup near the audible band.

Maybe the ripples in the 5k-20k range are due early breakup? Maybe the dome isn't that hard. A relatively soft (thin I suppose) dome with gradual breakup could explain the abscence of a high Q peak in the area above 20k..?

Don' forget my PM to you Jon!
