    summer projects

Will be building stuff for the first time this summer.

Is this what I need to crimp to connect wires from terminal>x-over>speaker

Uh, the actual crimper is a hand tool, though you can solder these onto wire, instead, and it's probably better to do so even after crimping. You might be able to squeeze them with small pliers, definatly solder then to help with a likely flakey joint!

Yep, the "faston", "quick disconnect", "flag", or "spade" lug is the thing to go on those blade like terminals found on most drivers. They do vary in width, so you want to measure how wide your terminal is, and have some in stock to fit.

They have two dimensions, the width, and the wire range. This is what sizes fit properly in the crimp barrel. 22-18ga, 16-14ga, etc. Get the right size for he wire you're using. Usually they are color coded as well, for wire range.

And, this completes spade lug 101... we'll skip the final exam... :W

I just found the response graphs on PX for the four drivers I wanted. Would they help in designing a crossover?

5 inch woofer with spl and impedance

6 inch woofer with spl and impedance

8 inch woofer with spl and impedance

1-1/8 tweeter with spl and impedance

the site also suggested how to cross the tweeter.

Since you're already looking at 2 of the 3 drivers, why not use a tweeter that is of similar quality as the mid and woofer and do one of the versions of this https://www.htguide.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15323 - the Seas tweeter version will cost $15 more and the crossover design heavy lifting is already completed.

Okay, I wanted to build my own stuff, but it is still going to cost to much money, and take to much time. I looked through parts express, and found some cheap pioneers that look promising for a 7.0 .

          center: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...50-685&scqty=1
          surrounds/rears: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...50-670&scqty=2
          fronts: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...50-675&scqty=1

total is going to come to about $170 USD. Do these speakers look any good? Their SPL is pretty pathetic, but everything else seems fine for $170.
