    Fuzzmeasure...

    Hello!

Once I'm finished with my modula MTs (soon I hope) I'd like to start cobbling together a measurement system.

I've been looking at the different packages available and the only one i've found for mac (what i'd prefer to do this on) is fuzzmeasure

    Fuzzmeasure.com

Does it look like it has everything I need to start designing speakers? It doesn't look like its got a crossover sim or anything like that...

What drew me to this app was its price ($125) and the ability to run on os x...

    Thanks

Fuzzmeasure is just a measurement package, not an all in one tool.

Although I understand the appeal of unified products (like Speaker Workshop, SoundEasy), I'm a bit retro and prefer separate tools (LspCAD, Praxis).

I have Soundmeasure on my MacBook Pro, I may add it to another system, too- for now, it's more for experimentation and portable use at this time- it's not just focused on speaker measurement, it's a bit more general purpose, which may not help some folks, but gives some flexibility.

As an experiment I'm going to try doing the CC three way design just using this as the measurement tool.

For crossover design you'll have to use the windows platform, there is not much out there for the Mac (unless you for instance write your own Matlab packages). I use Speaker Workshop (SPW) for crossover design, which is free, and use it in PC emulation mode on my Mac. It is fast, especially on a Intel-based Mac using Parallels as a virtual machine engine.

I'm very satisfied with Fuzzmeasure. Especially the option to compare or combine measurements with just one click, and the option to build good waterfall curves makes it very useful. Also, the author gives very good support.

You can easily export your measurements from Fuzzmeasure, and import them to SPW.

You can see some curves I've made with SPW and Fuzzmeasure on my webpage:

I am pretty disappointed in the lack of crossover design software for OS X.

Being such a "pro" operating system it kinda surprises me...

I would be very very interested in seeing the math behind crossover calculations...Any links?

Mac is for artists making music, not measuring it .

I feel that was a slam on many levels...is speaker design not an art?

macs do other things too ya know ;-) :T

I've been able to use the modeling and simulation portions of Speaker Workshop under WINE on Linux as well, no troubles. Well, very slightly finicky in a couple spots but nothing problematic at all - nothing outside of what one might expect of SW, that is.

That's why I transform my measurements made on a Mac immediately into music.

Here's an impulse response from a filtered woofer, first in an anechoic room, then in my living room (site doesn't accept .wav or .mp3 immediately, so you need to decompress). Exported using Fuzzmeasure.

"ooooooh, I love that sound!" ;b>

                    Jon,

Can you point me to where I can get this Soundmeasure software that you are talking about?

                    Thanks,

Ah, this is Fuzzmeasure. I thought you'd found another program called "Soundmeasure" as you'd typed in your first post.

I'm somewhat familiar with this software, I'd given the developer some suggestions when he was first writing it based on my experience using the IMP/M measurement system.

                        Thanks,
                        Ron

This software looks interesting and its a lot cheaper than Sound Easy. I feel comfortable using Speaker Workshop for crossover development. Will this software offer an improvement in accuracy/ options over SW for measurement ?

Well, I downloaded the Demo version to try out. I ran some tests to see how intuitive the software is. How do you export zma files? I couldn't do it. Are you using other software for impedance measurement?
