Active Studio Monitor DIY Question

Does anyone know of a DIY kit with active crossover that might compare to or beat a pair of Studio Precision 8 monitors? I would like to build soimething in the below 1k range for price but any examples would be appreciated. Check out the link below:

Do you need for the electronics to be attached to the speaker for portability or can they be separate?
I am not aware of any kit available but you certainly could put together a very good active 2way monitor using an excellent tweeter like the SEAS H1212 and one of these 6.5" mid bass drivers.http://www.zaphaudio.com/6.5test/

For the active xover you could use these PCB's. http://www.delta-audio.com/Active_Fi...our_manual.pdf They are very versatile and as well as including the HP/LP xover function they also allow for the inclusion of tweeter time delay and notch filters to flatten a drivers response.Something like a 4th order LR crossover in the 1.8-2k range should work.
For the 4channels of amplification you might use 4 of the ChipAmps like the LM3886 or for more power use one of the classD kits like a uCD.
It would not be as simple as a kit but you could put all of the electronics in one apropriately sized chassis.
