2006 Iowa DIY Speaker Event Info!

The event you’ve all been waiting for! The 2006 Iowa DIY Speaker event will be held at Advenureland Inn, Altoona, Iowa on Saturday, October 28th. This years event will be hosted by Jason Andreason, Doug Peterson and myself.

Adventureland Inn is located next to I-80 at the Marshalltown/Altoona exit about 3 miles East of Des Moines, Iowa. It is adjacent to several other hotels, many restaurants, Prairie Meadows Casino and Adventureland amusement Park. Several malls are located within a 20 minute drive for significant others amusement.

We’ll have speaker classes, speaker evaluation sessions and for sale tables etc. again this year. Tentatively, we’ll have a budget, mid range and unlimited classes plus a possibility of a super budget class if there is enough interest and speaker entries.

I’ll be sending an email to the 2004 distribution list that was compiled a couple years ago for the 2004 event with further details. If you are interested in attending and don’t receive an email with in a week, send me an email and I’ll add you to the distribution list.

We’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Is there a prize for the person traveling the longest distance to get there?
What would it take to get Thomas to leave the mountains and travel?

Yes, all are welcome. You do not have to bring a project to attend. We have a 2000 sq. ft. conference room reserved for the event which should hold a nice size crowd plus have room for all of the speakers and the "For Sale" tables. There is a $10 cover to get in to cover expenses.

I hope to have a good turn out and a number of speakers entered to listen to. We had 23 speakers entered in 2004. Last year, my daughter was having back surgery so I wasn't able to attend the Iowa event but I did make it to the Chicago event. Chicago had a lot of attendees but not many speakers. Jason said that the Iowa event was light on speakers too. I hope to reverse that trend this year. I'll bring three pair of speakers myself so that should be a good start.

If you'd like to get on the email distribution list, send me your email address and I'll add you to the list.

          Hi Chuck,

Sorry, no prize for the furthest travel but the guy to beat is Maynard Goff. He's a former Iowa resident that now lives in your sunny state of Florida and flies in with his speakers each year to attend. Actually Maynard attends a number of events around the country. He's a good guy and an avid DIY speaker builder.

Put your RS 3-ways in your backpack and bring them to Iowa. I'll have mine there plus the Natalie P's I had at Chicago last year plus the Modula M/T's. I think I'll bring my JH3 Reference for the for sale table and may use them as a benchmark for the Unlimited Class since they tied with Jim Salk's Veracity's for best sound in 2003.

            2006 Iowa DIY Event Info?

I sent an email with more information about the upcoming Iowa DIY Event to everyone in my distribution list from 2004. A number of emails bounced. If you'd like to receive information and didn't get an email from me, please email me and I'll add you to the list.

            Thanks!

Yes, I think Adventureland Park is closed by the end of September. Not sure but that would be my best guess. Adventureland Inn has a very, very nice aquatic center I'm told. It's for guests only of course. Dave Ellis stayed there a couple of years ago and said it was great.

My family did an overnight stay at Adventureland this summer. They have two indoor pool areas. One has a slide about 8 ft. high and the other has a "zero depth" area with fountains and another pool with a swim-up bar. It's not quite up to indoor water park levels - but pretty entertaining for my boys (ages 4 and 5) nonetheless. We plan to be there!
