    Speaker mounting options

I'm building a theater and would like to hide my subwoofer and speakers behind acoustically transparent cloth panels that would blend in with the rest of my decor.

Technically the speakers and subwoofer would be mounted ~6" behind the wall boundary. Is this going to cause any issues? Do speakers and subwoofers always need to be proud of the walls and if so how much?

The crossovers in loudspeakers are designed for the speakers to be well away from all boundries. We're talking 2'-3' away from the walls. So unless you plan on having custom crossover built or are going to use in-wall/on-wall speakers, the sound quality is going to suffer as a function of the placement you describe
