    Ports: Bottom vs. Back

    Hello again,

I'm at the point with my box construction to add a port. I've considering using a bottom firing port which most of the higher end designs are using. A search brought up a few threads mentioning the use of bottom and back firing ports but not much to make a "pro and con" comparisons between the two.

    Your insight is appreciated.

I don't think it matters as long as placement isn't a problem. I beleive that you want the distance from the wall/floor to be at minimum 1/2DIA of your port, or more. So, as long as you can place it away from the wall, side/rear is fine. I've seen several top ports recently, and this works since you don't have to worry at all. I wouldn't bottom fire the port, because that means you have to lift the sub up and it just becomes more complex.

But, it is really just a personal preferance / placement issue.
