I'm a newbie at DIY and......

I am looking for plans on a 2 way front ported bookshelf speaker that sounds good. What are some good drivers and tweeters and parts for this that will sound good? I do want one with a soft dome tweeter.

    Thanks

    budget? Size?

    Sooo many options.

Port location can almost always be adapted to the front. Modula MT or my MTM at ~$250ish mark would be my off-the-cuff suggestions, though the Natalie P or Mark K's RS225 based 2-way or... sooo many options. We need more info on what you expect out of these.

I would like to spend $200-$300 for everything. These will be for a 2 channel set up for my bedroom, so for radio and cd's, if that is what you mean by what I expect out of these.

Can you get me a link for the plans of Mark K's RS225 as well as the others?

            Thanks

The Nat Ps and Modula MTs are both "sticky" threads atop the DIY section. Here is a link to Chris' MTM.

              I don't have the RS225 link, sorry... 8O

Chris's MTM is more than I want for a speaker. I just want a one 6 1/2 woofer and one soft dome tweeter design with a front port on it. And I want plans on building the box for it. Also would like them to be 8 ohms and effecient. Thanks for the links dyazdani, those are not the ones I am looking for.

You're getting into territory of "not gonna happen".

The Modula MT with Seas 27TDFC (think there's a version for these two) is going to be what you're asking for, except perhaps for sensitivity. You just can't defeat physics - higher sensitivity would require more mid-woofers or stepping into drivers that are themselves higher sensitivity - such drivers tend to lack many of the other attributes folks around here like to see in a driver though.

Does it have a rear port on it? If it does could it be changed to a front port?

I addressed that in my first post. Any design with a rear port can usually be adapted to a front port setup. If you build the Modula MT ported, it can be moved to the front.

The port needs to be located away from the tweeter. So below the woofer is the best place on the front baffle.
