Will this work or is it crazy ?

I'm thinking instead of building a sub enclosure and having large cubes in the living room, that maybe I could rebuild my audio cabinets and put the 2 - 15" drivers in the lower section ..

Here's what I have :

I would have the cabinets rebuilt and the lower section would be the subs. What do you think ?

The subs would have 1.5" thick walls and would have a grill/stealth look.. Also they both would face the sofa's ..

I don't think it would vibrate much if anything at all..

Good Idea or not ?

I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with large drivers at the base of a speaker to cover the lower frequency range, but it might be easier/better to build new cabinets and sell the old speakers than trying to modify the old ones.

edit in: Just saw Thomas' post below and realized I had mistakenly thought the plan was to re-build the speaker cabinets, not the other cabinets.

I thought w/ 1.5" thick sides that the sub would not vibrate..
