Oh my, SS AirCir has arrived

For a lot less than I thought it would be! $220 isn't thrift store cheap, but its not unreasonable either. I'm probably looking at my next tweeter purchase now. Or should I wait for the metal domes Ken Kantor hinted at :yesnod: ...?

    cheers,

    AJ

Mark K's got the hots for this one, too...

OK, so who's going to pony up for one so we can test it? Or should we do a "pool purchase", to minimize the risk?

The FR on this one makes a lot more sense to me than the new things Seas is doing. Would sort of wish the Xmax was a bit higher, but it might be pretty nice to 2 kHz. 160 watts power handling? Does that seem a trifle optimistic to anyone else but me?

Note the senstivity- 92.5 dB. About the same as some of the new Accutons. Of course, the Focal Tc120dx series has been in that neighborhood a long time.

Shoot out at OK Corral.... Accuton C24-6 vs D3004/660000 - great movie concept, eh? Something for the hard dome guys, and another for the soft dome guys to root for!

The Crescendo looks pretty good from NP's test also. More choices the better of course.

          I like those charts!

Jon - You say the Focal has a similar senstivity to the SS. Judged from the information available here would you say that the Focal could be x-over'd as low as this new tweet from SS?

Just would like to read what you think about that.

That depends on the real world Xmax. I still plan to "benchmark" my Tc120dx2's but the FR is damped at the bottom end, and the Fs is higher to begin with. The SS has a very nice low resonance, but SS has a history of tweeters that only have moderate Xmax and can't be pushed as hard as something like the Millenium Excel or 27TDFC down low. Maybe this one will be different. Maybe not. The plots look great, and crossed at 2 kHz I bet it's just fine. Or with a waveguide. I think the front plate design would make it harder to use with a waveguide, becuase of the shallow bevel to the faceplate.

Using the specified Xmax of .2mm and effective diaphram area of 7 cm^2 these are the SPLs that can be expected on an infinite baffle before exceeding Xmax.

              1,000 Hz = 91 dB SPL
              1,400 Hz = 97 dB SPL
              2,000 Hz = 103 dB SPL

              I think Jon is right.

Oh, if you are planning to use a Wave Guide what is the WG's lift profile? A graph of the lift profile would be nice.

Just re-read the specs and noticed that the "LINEAR" Xmax was only .2 and the XMech was 1.6 or something. I guess I read through it too fast. Sure looks nice on paper, anyway.

In the right application, with the flat curves and very good off axis response, I bet they sound great. Not just on paper. BUT, they're not the answer to everything, certainly not at $220. That turf has a lot of players.

                    Focal t120 series

These guys Volkslautsprecher are offering rebuilds of the t120. The nice thing is that they can change the design to the clients demand.
