    Which driver for sonosub

    hey guys
    nice forum u have going here, i went to hometheaterforum.com and it has kinda died

    hope someone can help me choose a driver as i do not have the pleasure of choosing the brands you guys have in the states

    here are 2 subs that i can get relatively cheap, just wanna know if i'd be able to use either for a sonosub application tuned to perhaps 18-20Hz

    MODEL: DBR-15
    Fs = 26Hz
    Qts = 0.7356
    Vas = 5.71 cubic ft
    Sen = 92dB
    2" polymide coil (4 ohms)
    70 Oz magnet
    Santoprene surround

    MODEL: TremorXR-15
    Fs = 28Hz
    Qms = 4.6012
    Qes = 0.5582
    Qts = 0.4978
    VAS = 1.30Ft
    Xmax = 0.5"
    85dB 1W/1M
    Revc = 6.67
    Levc = 6.3mH @ (1 kHz)
    2" Single Voice coil/8ohms

    which would work better, i have not mentioned the brand name yet as i'm sure it doesn't matter but if need be i will
    others have recommended JBL subs as an alternative to Adire Audio and the like

    thanks in advance
    regards

    Neither of those are very good....

    The high Qts rules out the first one. The second has a very high Le. That will cause the top end to roll-off quickly.

    Any other options?

        How much are you willing to spend on a driver?

        Edit: I see you're in South Africa which could complicate things and significantly add to shipping for certain brands and drivers.

          Look around the net at the parameters for some of the more popular DIY home drivers.

            Mounting Depth 172mm
            Overall Diameter 385mm
            Vas 133 liter
            Qts 0.44
            Fs 28.36Hz
            Qes 0.47
            Qms 7.35
            Sealed Enclosure (vol) 43L

                  One can usually get info direct from JBL. Try their website or send them an email

                    think i've found one that will suite my application

                    Pioneer TS-W3002SPL 12"
                    1000w rms nominal
                    SPL: 89db
                    Le: 3,8 (series wiring)
                    0,95 (parralel wiring)
                    Fs: 25,5
                    Qts: 0,29
                    Vas: 1,315 cu.ft (looks a bit small)
                    Xmax: 0,43 inch

                    how do u think this sub will fair?

                    reason being i can't get any of these subs:
                    Adire Audio
                    Dayton
                    Splinter...

                        It's better than the other's you've listed

                          ok so things are getting better

                          i can get most of the car audio subs here in South Africa

                          is there not a car audio sub notorious for working well within the home theater too?

                          sorry about all the questions but i am not familiar with what distinguishes a car sub from a home sub

                          i know the home audio sub has to reach lower frequencies than within a car but thats about it

                          thanks for the help so far

                            It enough of a task to keep up with the DIY home audio products. As a result I don't have a clue what's offered in the car audio world.
