    Speaker Art

Not wanting to sidetrack another thread I thought I'd start this one. A link from Caplocks Homegrown Seas coaxial thread was rather interesting. One of the speakers this guy has built is among the nicest looking speakers that I have ever seen. It also appears that he either has access to or works for a (possibly) speaker company or has his own anechoic chamber! :E . How sweet would that be? I don't know about you guys, but I certainly wouldn't mind having one of those. The link: http://www.ele.tut.fi/~artoko/audio/.../speakers.html

    Cheers,

Kindof reminds me about the bass scene in Back To The Future. That's one BIG element

AJ, it wouldn't be that hard to cobble together an "anechoic cage" out of 2x4s, chicken wire and fiberglass insulation, say, 2 feet thick. It doesn't need to be big enough to walk into, just big enough for the speaker and the mic. No solid walls on the outside, just let the deep bass pass right through the walls. You could use it either indoors or outdoors. Maybe make it so it knocks down into the 6 surfaces to make it easy to move around.

That's actually the anechoic chamber of the Tampere University of Technology.

"All frequency responses are measured in anechoic room at TUT."

The longer I'm in this hobby, the more I'm of the opinion that only Scandenavians can do things like that with wood. The rest of the world just has to sit back and watch. I couldn't even do that if I had a CNC and 10 years of training.
