Caps. GE or Solen for Modula MTM.

AudioCap brand is way expensive for my budget, that said, how do the GE caps from Madisound compare to Solen caps (which would you pick, GE, Solen, or Jantzen)?

Also, I noticed Madisound has Solen inductors (14ga wire) for less then Partsexpress, but do not have the specs published (DCR, etc). Woud it be safe just to go with them instead of the ones from PE?

If they are both 14 gauge Solen Perfect Lay inductors, they should be the same.

I've only used Solen caps, so cant help there.

Unless you have really high-end equipment you're not going to hear much of a difference between the Solen and GE caps.

The GE caps are very good electrically, so are the Solen. Biggest advantage to the Solen is smaller for a given required size- the crossover fits in the box.

The AudioCAP were recommended (and used by me) for part of the tweeter caps. On good to better gear, it makes a difference- how much depends on you and your gear. ThomasW was skeptical, until he heard that mod on his Arvo's.

Certainly it comes down to budget, and building the crossovers is easier with the Solens. I usually get the AWG 14 coils from Madisound anyway. Just follow the suggested wire guages, and you should be fine.

I found I like Jantzens at PE better than Solens, and they are about the same price. YMMV.

I've bought some of them from PE, too. Depends on the gauage and DCR I'm looking for.
