Well... I know I could get scrutinized for "undesigned" speakers. But, noticed that the drivers in my meridian dsp5000's were extremely affordable models of seas drivers. Like the sound... Sold them off. While I know much of the magic is cabinent design and crossover (especially in the meridian active amped after xover). Figured I could give a whirl at a speaker. Decided to do a 2 way but ontop of a sub, thus a biamped 3 way i guess. Figured I could get away with a simple series 2 way crossover and match the sub driver in externally (amp gain, xover, etc.) - which will run off LFE channel of HT pre. The 2way top end will be xover at 40-60Hz by pre.
These are intended for family room surround. Ideally would have used separate cabinents. Anyway... attaching pick of where I'm at right now. Will be using seas 6.5 poly cone, seas alum dome tweeter with poly surround and NHT evolution 12" woofers. 2 way cab area is about 30L and sealed. bass cab is about 2.25 cubic ft and also sealed. Let me know if want to see earlier pics of construction process. The hole in the rear is actually another chamber for crossover, or if really wanted could squeeze a UcD amp in there. Side walls are thinner mdf for easier bending, but a layer of concrete poured on them to make them stiffer.
Just figured I'd throw these up to inspire others ideas.
