    Project WmtmW

Design for a series of WmtmW speakers using 6.5" Woofs, 3"-4.5" mids, 25mm(or maybe 19mm) tweeter, designed to be used with or without a sub (but required for HT use).

The basic designs will be vented bass (approx 18L for each woofer at 40Hz), sealed mids, and will be able to be used for a variety of driver combinations.

Various baffle and speaker shapes will be investigated, from easy to build rectangulars, to more difficult constructions, (maybe with hints on how to build the shaped ones.)

Sketch design options will be able to work as tower, stand or wall bracketed fronts for placement next to newer big screens, or as centres in a horizontal position. Rears could be similar or a smaller Wmt combo, (or maybe even bipole or similar, again, I may provide some possible sketches if people are interested.) Tower model could have extra volume for more bass extention.

The aim is to build up a series of ‘idea’ sketches for use by who-ever wants to use them !

****** And here is the rub..... all given driver combinations I use will be able to work with a MINIMAL component x-o and with x-o points in the 350Hz and 3000Hz region. I will naturally use a linked series 3-way and will initially provide some carefully chosen possible driver combinations from major manufacturers with a possible "starting point" series x-o for people to play with.
Eg from Vifa maybe an M18, M11, + tweeter combo and maybe one using TC drivers, a Seas combo, maybe a Peerless.. someone else would have to do an RS combo since I assume a more complicated x-o would be required and I can't get them anyway......
(unless someone wants to send me enough to do 2 fronts and a centre.... gratis  )

Anyone interested? If enough interest, I will start a web page or 2 with some starting point designs as soon as I can.

I've done some WMTMW designs in the past, but becuase of the issues around BSC, and the difficulties of finding midrange cone drivers that are actually pistonic to 3 kHz or higher, and issues regarding driver seperation (Ctr to Ctr) at the crossover frequency, they've always used dome mids.

Maybe we'd have a clearer idea of what you want to accomplish, and how we can contribute if you outline your design ratiocination in a little more detail.
