In Wall Speaker install w/ volume control

I am currently having a home built new construction. Prior to the dry wall phase I am going to install speaker wire throughout the home. There will be one speaker in each bedroom in addition to the kitchen and dining room. I am a little unsure on how to run the wire, because I'm not sure how the volume control works for each room. Do I run the wires speaker selector > speaker > volume control or would it be speaker selector > volume control > speaker? Also, since I am only having one speaker per room, I should use wiring with only 2 cond not 4...correct?

Any help or additional recommendations would be appreciated.

Speaker selector > volume control > speaker

One mono speaker = one 2 conductor run to volume and one 2 conductor on to speaker
One stereo speaker = two 2 conductor or one 4 conductor to volume, two 2 conductor or one 4 conductor on to speaker
Two mono speakers = two 2 conductor or one 4 conductor to volume, one 2 conductor on to each speaker

Exactly. I pre-wired my house for all-home audio before drywall, and it turned out great!

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.
