I didn't want to bother cutting the sonotube, since I wouldn't have any useful amount left over anyway, and I also knew I wanted a LARGE enclosure for the adire EBS alignment, so I just left the full 6' length of sonotube intact, giving me alittle under 400L of internal volume.
The enclosure is tuned to right around 15hz, with (3) 28" long, 4" PVC pipes. Both endcaps are made with 3 layers of wood, cut using a homemade circle jig my father rigged up for me. The inner layers of the endcaps are MDF, while the outermost layers are both made out of plywood (stiffer than MDF).
The driver is an Adire Audio 15" Tempest, wired in parallel, presenting a 4ohm load to the 250w Parts Express plate amp. I still have to build a seperate enclosure for the amp and controller, as you can see for now I just have them sitting out in the open.
Construction was alot more time-consuming than I orginally planned! I still have to build the amp enclosure, and cover the tube with a fabric sock of some sort.
As for how it sounds - INCREDIBLE! I'm pretty impressed with the sound. My father was outside behind our house burning garbage, so I'd say he was a good 50 yards away from the house, when I played the "factory" scene from Minority Report - you know the one - with those pulse guns that shoot the sound waves - holy crap, that scene has some SERIOUS bass in the 30-50hz range. Anyway, he came running back to the house - he thought there was an actual explosion or something...
Sounds great with music, but really shines in movies - the ultra low tuning really gives a boost to the REAL low frequencies, and watching explosions/gunfights has never been more enjoyable. It has audible bass below 15hz, I just can't hear it much past that - but you can feel it in your chest :E
I'll just post the pictures now, and I'll update this with some details of each later/answer questions if there are any! I would love to hear any comments!
