    Basment Installs

Well, I was about to upgrade my system, but it now seems I will be upgrading my residence instead. Most exciting is that the new place has a finished basement which my wife has generously granted to me to "do whatever you want with it". Of course, we all know what that means.

So, I thought I would put it out there and see if anyone here has any experience with basement installs and set ups. I may be jumping the gun asking for input at this point, as I don't have many good details to give, but we'll see if anyone has any ideas. I'm guesstimating the room at 600 sq ft, something like 20x30 with a 7 ft. ceiling. The walls have a wood paneling that has been painted white, with a carpeted floor.

I would be very interested in hearing about any sound treatment or wiring techniques that some have used. In fact any basement install anecdotes would be appreciated. I may not get too serious about it until I have the money to upgrade my equipment, but I also think I will get antsy to do what I can and would love to hear ideas!

My theatre is in my basement and I learned a lot about what I'd do again and what I'd change. I'll see about posting more when I get a moment this weekend but if you have specific questions let me know. There's some before and after pics on my website to get you started though

I just sold my B&W 805 Speakers for $1,950 on Audiogon. I am looking for a more discrete solution to music in the basement. We currently have a B&W system in our family room, powered by a pioneer Elite Receiver. The B Amplifiers are powering 2 pair of B&W WM2 Outdoor Speakers that are controlled...

Finishing basement - what cabling needed?
          by GregoriusM
          Hey!

My girlfriend is going to be finishing off the basement in the house she is moving to starting in April.

It will be fully finished as a basement apartment. Her mother is going to live upstairs for a year or two until she has to move to the left coast for health reasons,...

Looking for general design ideas for basement space (pictures)

First let me start off by stating I've been lurking here for a few years. I've really enjoyed reading build threads and learning as I go.

I'm in the process of building my "dream" basement. The wife has the rest of the house, I have the garage and basement. The basement has...

          Howdy.

I've been a lurker for quite some time, registered earlier this year, and have mostly tried to read as much as I can and learn from all of the wonderful folks on this board. I've been bitten (hard) by the HT/DIY bug, and after convincing the better half that it would be fine to...

Need some help with the planning of my basement theater (IB)
          by Mazeroth
I am in the process of designing our finished basement which will house my small theater. The bummer with the layout of the basement is that the steps are in the center which makes for two small rooms to the sides of it instead of the option of having a larger room. This is the only place I can really...
