    Hello Intel, I love vindication....

Well, it's amazing to me to see some of the pragmatic actions coming out of Intel lately; they're going even further than I excpected, but the "leadership" shown by AMD in processor philosophy and general architecture has got to be galling....

    Tejas to be canned...

This is being reported in the Wall Street Journal today, though it's been predicted earlier elsewhere.

The development teams for Tulsa and Jayhawk have also been re-assigned.

The latest developments? Goodby Tejas, Jayhawk, and Tulsa...

I wonder how Intel's stock price will do this week, after canning the nearly complete Tejas and it's follow on programs? This kind of puts their roadmap in disarray; as various folks have been speculating since they brought the head of the Isreali CPU development group that produced the Pentium M back to Santa Clara, there will be a marked change in direction in development for desktop CPUs and server CPUs, and they will look a lot more like Pentium M's or Athlon64's architecturally.

Hello Pentium M and it's progeny.

Pentium M = PIII with pipeline enhancments plus big L2 cache. I.E, do more work with fewer Gigahurtz, AKA Athalon!

Reportedly, there's a skunkworks project in Oregon to shovel the AMD 64 extensions into the Pentium M....

This just makes me think of all those poor people out there who have never even heard of AMD... If they only knew they could get better processors for less money from a company that actually has it's poop together!

I cringe at how many times someone's asked my advice on computers and when I recommend AMD they're like: "Who?... Isn't intel the best?"

Intel HAS confirmed today that Tejas is "history". :E

Development resources for desktop CPUs are going to be re-routed to dual core Dothan (Pentium M 90 nm) processors, and the development process reeled in, targeting 2005 for release.

The Grantsdale and Alderwood chipset platforms will continue, but only with Prescott based processors.

An interesting week, it has been. :B

Hmmm... I'm feeling pretty good about ordering my AMD system now.

          You should, Sonnie, you should.

There are a lot of implications for this in the PC business and Intel's future roadmaps. It affects many parts of the supply chain (I work for a company for whom that's a major factor- semiconductors, including memory, power semiconductors for PC's and servers).

It's going to be an interesting year or two for Intel, and I mean that in the sense of the old Chinese curse/proverb, "May you live in interesting times". :W
