I hear Max payne is coming to Xbox, and the graphics are suppost to be even better than on PC. The Developers stated that the XBox gives them the memory bandwidth and program latitude to really make more eye candy. Should be interesting to see, I proablly will not pick it up as i just finished it on my PC. It will be nice to see the differences however...

Hey Lex,

Why Fever 2002 and not Madden. Have tried Madden on a PS2 and really hated how the players moved so unrealistically. You can't make a cut if your life depended on it in that game. They also move so slow. Players look real weird in it too as they have very large heads compared to their body. With Fever, players move almost exactly like they should and I feel like the outcome of the game depends more on your actions, more than any other football game out there.

Hope you don't mind me saying this, but I wouldn't trust those guys at Gamespot. Seems like some of their reviews are done even before they finish the whole game. That being said, you only need a couple of matches to get a feel for football. What I think you should really look at are the personal reviews of the games by true gamers. As you will see, Fever gets a higher mark than Madden does. But the best thing to do is to try each game and see what suits you better.

Hold off on Amped until SSX Tricky comes out (2 weeks or so). Amped is average at best. SSX Tricky is phenomenal.

Every published review I've read of the two football games rates Madden higher than NFL Fever. Fever is good for a first-time attempt at a football game but it doesn't have the depth Madden has. It does, however, have the better looking visuals. I'm sure next year's NFL Fever update will be an even more competitive product.

I have also read most of the reviews out there, but I have a feeling that most of the reviews are based on people being used to the Madden franchise. I also don't know if they have played both football games. I know I have and have also played the 2K series for Dreamcast, amd would have to rate the football games in this order.

1. 2k Series
2. Fever 2002
3. Madden Series

I think playability wise and overall fun factor, Madden is lacking big time. You could have all the features in the world, but what it all boils down to is gameplay, and IMHO, Madden is lacking big time in this department.

Jeremy, your really swaying me towards Fever. I was sitting on the fence leaning towards Fever for the graphics.

I have read that Fever is a solid football game that has a few quirks that would only be recognized by hardcore Football sim players, which I'm very much at the opposite end of the scale from. I read that Fever may be the better choice for the casual Football sim player, which I am very much. Plus it has more Eye candy.

Humm what to do??? Nobody in town has Xbox games for rent that I know of. I'll phone around.

If you can, I really suggest that you rent both football games and see which one suits you better. But if you can wait, NFL 2K2 will be the one to get between all 3 football games. I can guarantee you that even though I have Fever 2002, I will be the first one in line when NFL 2K2 comes out. I just couldn't wait that long to have a system and not have a football game to play. But Fever 2002 is still head and shoulders above Madden IMHO, and is a great football game. Hopefully 2K2 will have online capabilities and maybe we can setup a game if you decide to go the 2K2 route. Cheers!!!

Surprizingly I did decide to wait for NFL 2K2 as the reviews I read on it for the PS2 garner a 9.5 score Read it here. It's the play control that excites me of NFL 2K2. They said it really gave you the feel and satisfaction of catching a football!

Well, my first impressions of this game is you can certainly tell it's a port....

I don't know what EA has been thinking, but they are really affecting what was once a strong hold in the Hockey gaming department.

First up, the graphics of this is really less than stellar. The colors really look washed out and the jerseys don't have a lot of shadow detail compared to PC NHL 2001. Still it nice looking, just not great

The color comentary is a bit over the top, and a bit over done. Every action has some kinda metaphor that some times makes you laugh, some times makes you groan. The fact of the matter is, We are Canadian, We play on real hockey teams and we watch a lot of Hockey, so we tend to be a bit critical of things like this. I don't know what EA was thinking, for they themself's are a Canadian company out of Vancouver, they should know better.

The play control is OK and it does give me the feel as if I'm playing. The new break away cam is kinda cool, and gives you a feeling kinda like you are in one on one with the widescreened focused look and the pulse beat sound. There is a replay cam that will interupt play with 3 different camera angles when a great save or Hit is made. I actually like it, but it takesa bit to get use to as play is stopped to show the camera angles, and then play resumes. Hitting is one thing I'm having a bit of trouble setting up. it's seems there is a slight delay and you really have to anticipate the hit before hand, more than the other series that I have played.

The fights are a bit dissapointing as they are limited to around 3 second bout, What's with that? I miss the older versions where it went for a good spell or until you knocked somebody down. With this version it's like why bother?

The Players don't seem to get after the ref as much after a penalty call, I really miss that.

The rosters look up to date as Eric Lindros in on the Rangers. You can also make trades to bring your teams up to date.

I certainly Hope EA stops all this porting nonsence and really starts to write specific apps for each platform it develops for.

So I'm a bit dissapointed in NHL 2002X as a Hockey Sim, However as a social game to play with the boys, it won't matter much, it will still be fun in that capacity. I still think it is worth while to have on the Xbox for any hockey fan, and if your a Canuck, you have no excuse for not having it :B Recommemded!

To bad on NHL 2002. Will probably just rent it since I have it on the PC.

Had a Fever 2002 tournament yesterday and boy was it ever fun. There was me, my brother and some buddies of mine. Started at around noon, and didn't end until 7 that night. Lot of close games with all the trash talking and some major blowouts, one courtesy of me, a drubbing of 31-0 of my poor unsuspecting friend!!!! In the end, the best one won out, which was me by the way, with a last second feild goal to win the championship game!!!! After my buddies had enough of me winning, we teamed up and played some team oriented football(friend of mine had brought with him his 2 controllers). All in all, fun was had by all and a great reason to own a gaming console, especially an XBOX.

Sorry Jeremy, I didn't mean to turn you off of NHL2002X. It still is a worthwhile game to have in your library. I think 4 player mode would be a lot of fun, much like your Football game you had. You just can't replicate that on a PC

Don't worry about it Bing. Was looking at this Ea game, by default, as it is the only hockey game out there right now. Was hoping it would be major difference over the other versions out there, but I guess Ea is sitting on its laurels right now as I feel they have been seending out inferior games lately. I can wait for other hockey games to come out until I pick up a hockey game. Hopefully, Visual Concepts can come through, like they have with their football franchise.

Count me in for the X-Club (or how about the XLUB). I have the HD pack, extra controller, Halo, Madden, Doa3, Shrek. 5.1 in Halo is amazing.

Question on NHL 2002. Does this support 16:9 gameplay or is it stretched? I have seen different opinions on different boards. If it does not support it, how does it look stretched? Is everything out of proportion? I had to return NFL Fever because of this. The players were much to short and wide, plus it created way too many jaggies.
