what's your desktop look like?

I thought this might be interesting....so what's your desktop look like? As you can see I hate to have to many icons cluttering the desktop so I keep it as clean as possible and use the toolbar beside the start button instead. here is a screen capture of the desktop

You guys probably make your beds too I bet, huh? Bing, I have seen that photo before, in my quantum searches. I frequently go to Nasa sites and such for name ideas. Where you think I came up with Silver Centauri?

My weirdo setup won't even allow you to put icons on the "desktop"- when a program does so, they wind up slotted into the desktop tab of the workspace shelf.

It also doesn't have a conventional task bar, but the tasks show up as a string of semi-translucent icons starting from the upper left down. The only things normally on the desktop are the active programs, the "Atomic clock" (calibrated on line), and the re-cycler, which has a pretty cool animation when you drag files to it.

Hey Bing,

And of course, I'm displaying the most politically correct web site to be visiting, too!

It's the WINSTEP enviroment that I run; I use it partly because I can make an XP and NT4 system work essentially the same for all everyday tasks- it reduces the potential for confusion when moving between various systems (work desktop, work laptop both on NT).

Andrew, you forget, my desktop is in a box, lol. Actually, it's on the Tyan system which is down for the count man.

This one is very vanilla, nothing there, just a few icons. nothing like what I usually have, lol.

Classic stuff Lex! :LOL: I don't think you have enough apps running.... :P It's not that bad You should see my friends at work, it's got files and short cuts all over tarnation. I'll see if i can get a shot for you guys.

For general surfing I run my browser in a window page, with usually Winamp (my fav freeware :P ). Only when I'm running apps like Photo editing, drawing, spread sheets..etc, do I run in full sceen mode. Most times I run in a windowed page that is quite smaller then full screen. Don't know why, I have always done it like that.

I guess thats the joy of a 19" monitor at 1600x1200 resolution.

Bing, next time I have a system up and running for a while, I will show you my desktop then. Remember, this system had only been up for a few days from a fresh reload. Now you guys see why I like a lot of ram, huh? lol. I have had as many as 17-18 browser windows open at once. haha.

Bing, I am the same way. Rarely do I have a window more than 3/4-4/5ths the size of my monitor display.

OK as promised, here is my M8's destop at work. I tricked him into sending it to me before he knew what I was up to. After I told him, he said he would have cleaned it up before hand. I said that's exactly what I didn not want him to do... Heheh, I can be such a bastard as I'm sure he'll tell me :LOL:

You really have to see it in full size to appreciate it, I forgot to ask, however it must be at 1600x1200 for it fits my monitor.

Heh, :LOL: Yeah I knew you would want to hit "Clean Desktop Items" and " Auto Arrange Icons" Andrew, but you have to see this guy in action. He runs customised menus in Autocad/Mechcanical Desktop/Inventor, and moves so fast you can't keep up with which card is the King of spades 8O :P And he knows exactly where each item is on his desktop.

Bing, running nothing at all. It's a Quicklaunch toolbar with large icons...

The icons are from OSX and have just been converted over to .ico format (they look a lot better at that size than scaling up regular windows icons).
