    New Projectors at CEDIA

Well the reports are pouring in on the new HD2 DLPs and JVCs new SXGA+ projector.

Here are some recaps on opinions of the top projectors.

    JVC SX21 DILA

Some say that it was the best at the show with resolution of 1400x1050, reports picture just awesome. Also was fed with a $35,000 Texanex processor so still some questions to be answered on how it looks with real world sources. about $10k

    Infocus 7200 DLP

Also positive comments. Close second in many books to the JVC. The good thing is sources were fed through the internal scaler so this one demonstrated good internal processing. also about 10k

    NEC HT1000 DLP

NEC showed this projector off site so I'm not sure how many got to see it. One source rated it with the SX21 as their favorite at the show. With XGA resolution and adjustable iris this one ranges from 2000-3000:1 contrast and 600-1000 lumens. around $5500

Edit: The statement on bulb prices being a breakthrough was cut because it turns out the information was erroneous. $400-$600! ouch!

The other HD2 projectors from Yamaha, Sim, Marantz, Sharp were there and comments were made that you couldn't tell much difference, if any, between them. But most have said that the projectors this year have improved greatly over last years performance.

The only thing I can say about what I've read regarding LCD wasn't very positive so I'll leave it alone.

Just thought you folks would be interested in some of the news and opinions going around regarding this year's event.

I'll repeat them. They are all saying the 20HD/Sanyo PLV70 looked like crap.

Gotta be the setup. I have one and it is not a crappy PJ. I am certain the JVC looks markedly better, and the NEC may be (probably is) better in many respects, but the Sanyo is pretty nice and unbeatable for brightness at that price point (my overriding requirement).

I read the same thing about the Sanyo. Had to be the set-up. Can't believe it was that bad after all the good reviews I have seen elsewhere. Now it's nice to hear good things about dlp, but the thing I have noticed is that there is nothing with widescreen panels at the low price range we are seeing in lcd projectors.

I am not a Sony fan by any stretch of the imagination, even though I have owned one of their projectors and have loved it for 4 years now, but you have to pay attention to their intro of a WXGA 16:9 pj for $2995. Even if it' s a piece of crap, it will get other mfgrs to be more competitive.

Now what I'd like to see is a dlp widsecreen pj for under $5000US. Apparently the TI chips are getting cheaper all the time, so what gives here ?

That's watchoo got in the Plus Piano.

Looking for better resolution and such, I guess?

After reading more posts in the CEDIA threads at AVS, i did run across some positive remarks about the PLV70 showing HD (720p) at a Photokina/Infocom event in Cologne, also last week, where a couple of different guys said it looked beautiful.

Wonder what the hell is up with Studio Experience and their salesmanship? Between the defect reports, green dust blobs (I've got a little one) and now this, they're gonna seriously dent their sales.

If I didn't have one and know better, I'd be seriously looking at alternatives.

I'm hoping we get one of the new NEC HT1000's, if nont the JVC, for a project at work so I can check that out soon.

          Brandon,
The Piano is not a true widescreen pj. It has a dual dmd 4:3 and 16:9 chip so that when showing 16:9 you are not using the entire panel. And even though it has an HDTV input, it is actually scaling 1080i down to 480p. To get a true dlp widescreen and 720p HDTV you are in Sharp, Marantz and Runco territory... or in the $10,000 and up range. Now the way things are going, we may soon see true widescreen dlps in the 5K range. My question is, what's taking them so long ?
